The bongos feature authentic Cuban style steel bottoms, traditional rims, specially- selected matched hide heads, and a small center block for picking the drums up with one hand.The son of respected Latin musician Johnny Rodriguez, Sr., "Dandy" Rodriguez apprenticed with stalwarts Ray Barretto and Tipica '73 before beginning a 27-year tenure playing bongos and bells with the Tito Puente Orchestra. This was an era when bongo playing was a true art form and the LP Legend Series Johnny "Dandy" Rodriguez, Jr. Bongos keep the noble profession alive. Dandy's flourish, snappy technique and incredible charisma influenced generations of percussionists.

This new LP Bongo stand is designed especially for seated play. Double braced, tiltable stand allows for comfortable and secure play, even with the most aggressive style. LP King Klave is the loudest clave available and is made of specially formulated fiberglass. This nearly indestructible construction yields an incredibly loud "cutting" sound that can be heard on recordings from around the world. LP King Klaves measure 8" L x 1" W and have the projection and volume to cut through loud live music. They are also ideal for school use in marching bands. Clave (pronounced clah' vay) is the rhythmic pattern that forms the basis of Latin music. Clave is phrased in what is known as a 3/2 or 2/3 feel (three beats then two beats or two beats then three beats). Claves are the traditional instruments used to play clave and are comprised of two sticks that are struck together to get a sharp, cracking sound. One is called the clave, while the other is the striker. The clave lays in one hand between the fingertips and the heel of the hand, with the thumb out for support. This space between the clave and the palm of the hand creates a sound chamber. The striker is held as a beater in the other hand and is struck against the clave.
