Although authorities frowned on the decoration of Torah scrolls, the story of Esther could be artistically embellished because the text does not contain the divine name. This sixteen-month calendar presents thirteen beautifully ornamented, richly colorful Esther scrolls from Israel, Italy, Morocco, Germany, Austria, and Turkey, dating from the seventeenth to the twentieth century (the calendar�s last four month�s grids are grouped on one page).
