I have a Dell computer, and Crucial has a search function on their homepage that made it easy to find a listing for my computer, including a list of all the memory modules that are compatible with it. They made it painless to find the right memory for my computer.
In the online ordering process, you get a chance to find out the total charge -- including shipping to your address -- before completing the order. I think that is very civilized.
I understand that Dell uses Crucial as a source for memory. But you can save money by going to Crucial directly.
If you think you might want to purchase more memory for your computer one day, you might visit the Crucial website to get a price. Get a price every few weeks, and keep records of what you find. The prices fluctuate with the market, and when it's time to make the purchase, it's nice to know if you're buying during a price peak or dip. (I recommend "buying low.")
The prices tend to cycle over the period of a year or two. For instance, old-style PC100 memory used to be very cheap. Perhaps production was cut back, and prices got very high for over a year. Lately, the prices have moderated a bit, but not as low as they were a few years ago. I didn't have a "memory emergency," and I saved about $50 / 256 MB by recognizing that prices were high, and waiting for the prices to drop.
Plan ahead.
Best luck,
