After seeing all the reviews here I wasnt going to buy anything from this company. But in doing my research, I found that they have the best selection of translation products anywhere. I visited most of the other sites and they seem to offer Ectaco products but for more money! So, I placed my order after checking out all the options and testing a free trial version and am really glad I did. It has surpassed expectations in both quality and usability and it came on time with some nice extras. So, I can only say that they have done well by me and I would do business with them again. Recommended.

I just bought the EGR486T from them and they added in some nice accessories with it. I had to call to change something about my order and the person I spoke to made it easy to fix my mistake. They did try to offer me some more stuff but, hey, thats what they do isn't it? No pressure though, just friendly information. I opted for overnight delivery instead of the free version - and I got it right on time. everything was there and it all worked. So thumbs up from me.

The choice is a bit overwhelming in fact but I like that they dont only offer their own products for sale on the site. I ended up going for their Russian audio phrasebook (B-3) cause there arent so many like them around. Ordering and paying were easy and delivery was on time. Cant really say anything about customer service except the person who called to confirm my order was friendly and polite. The dictionary itself has been fun to use so far but I guess itll get its real workout this fall, once Im in Russia! So far I have just been fooling around with it and getting the hang of all the features. Like asking my dog directions to the metro. What can I say it works like they said it would and seems like a sturdy little item. I like that if I want to add languages it will be cheap and easy.

I must say I was a bit concerned by the negative reviews posted here so I really did my homework before I bought anything. But I can't see what all the fuss was about. It was a pretty painless, non-descript experience for the most part. One thing that was really outstanding, though, was the website. It was really easy to find my way around unlike a lot of other electronic sellers. Maybe its because they are specialized but I was on the page I needed before I knew it. The best, though,was that when I bought their ES400T on special, they sent me a second dictionary for free. The price was just what they said, with free shipping and it arrived in a few days time. I am just starting to learn how to use it but so far what I have discovered is that it is responsive and seems to have what I need to help me out with my Spanish. Maybe I won't give that second dictionary away after all...

Free international delivery is fantastic. I live in the UK and I ordered one of Ectaco's Universal Translators (UT-103) for my mum. She was in Spain - and she got it in time to save her holidays. Brilliant! Its true I had to pay some customs duties but I already knew about that from the website, so no surprises there. And mum, who is a complete technophobe, said it is really easy to use. Now, I'm just waiting for my turn to take it away to France next week.

Whoa. Stay away from this store. I wanted to buy an electronic dictionary from them that was advertised on their website for about $70. I called them out and they told me that this item was out of stock even though it is always indicated in-stock on their website. Guess what? They tried to sell me the same model but packaged with their so-called "in-house 1 year warranty" for $199. This item could be purchased from other vendors (e.g., Amazon) for about $85. This is worse than a "bait-and-switch"; it is a down-right con job. Then again, what can you expect from a NYC electronics merchant
I wonder though, why shopping.com allows such low quality merchant to be listed on their website that would on cause nothing but grief to its customers. |

I was somewhat disappointed in the ER200DM electronic dictionary because of the lack of Russian verb conjugations. (I had been spoiled by my Eng/Span Bookman) As an English speaker, I had no use for the conjugated English verbs, i.e. swim, swam, swum. If I purposely misspelled a word to view the alternate spelling suggestions, I found that the list was limited. Idioms are in English only, which didn't help me learn any Russian ones. I considered buying the ER486T Talking Russian English dictionary in order to have the features that I wanted, but found that the operating manual was not listed on Ectacto's support page. I wanted more information before buying a more expensive dictionary. The Ectacto web site does not describe the games. Great that it would have 4 games, but I am only interested in Russian/English language games. Apparently the ER486T has none of these. When I learned that the more expensive electronic dictionary didn't have the features I wanted (Russian verbs conjugated), I accepted the limitations of the less expensive product that I purchased and I am satisfied that the cost ($120-30 discount) was reasonable. I will just have to carry a copy of 201 Russian Verbs and a small grammar book in order to have the learning supplies that I need.

Chinese (traditional) is my mother language, I have learn English more than 10 years(but not good), and I am learning spanish about 6 months. That's why I buy ECS340T.
I bought ECS340T(English Spanish Chinese) from Ectaco more than 1 month, but it's terrible about Chinese traditional, there are many many many many wrong words on it, and some translation like Chinese simplified.(If you can read Chinese traditional, this for your reference http://www.wretch.cc/blog/mateo&article_id=1871475) And it says that there are 650,000 "words, including medical,technical, legal, and business terms...." in it. But I compare spanish->Chinese of Ectaco with my dictionary(paper, 45,000 words), my paper dictionary is better better than ECS340T. |

To buy a translator you need a lot of information about the relative merits of the translators available and Ectaco supplies good unformation. My only problem is tnat they are heavily oriented towards Chinese people buying their product and most of the keys are in Chinese. I had to ask specially for a manual in English (after delivery) and download it (150 very bulky pages) or I could not have used the translator

The product, ECTACO Partner EPg400TX(Portuguese, English)is of poor quality. The translator has audio-speaking and some of the words in Portuguese are poorly pronounced. The bad pronuncation has nothing to do with regional acents and/or usage, such as words being from Portugual, Brazil or different regions of a country. It is just poor pronunciation. It sounds as if Ectaco did not use a native speaker, but rather hired someone with a Russian accent to read a Portuguese dictionary. For example the voice recording for the very popular verb "fazer" was mangled beyond recognition.
Additionally, the small button to push to hear a word does not work unless it is pushed on one side, so one needs to push it just right or there is no result. BUY a good case for this machine (not the one that comes with it). It looks fragile and if it is dropped it will probably break into several pieces.
The good news about the translator is that the dictionary part has the most robust definitions in Portuguese. So if you are an English speaker making a serious effort to learn Portuguese well (as I am) then the dictioary part is good, especially if you are reading books or magazines in Portuguese.
I do not think there is another translator with as rich a set of definitions... so I'm keeping the machine, due to a lack of an alternative product with reasonably complete definitions.

My order was in UK Pounds delivery included. Ectaco shipped the product direct from the USA without paying import duty. Now Fedex are invoicing me for the import Duty and taxes that should have been paid by Ectaco. I believe this to be a total scam by Ectaco. The prices they show on their UK website are lies. They should pay the import duty and include that in the advertised price. |

There was alot of confusion about my order. I was given a special, then a different special was listed on my order. I called to inquire and then received a confirmation that I would be receiving both free products. Then I received another email saying I could only have one, which one did I want. Finally I received a confirmation that I would receive the free product in the original offer. However, when I received it, it required a German keyboard to use. When I inquired about that, I was told I needed to buy another product that contained the German keyboard. As you might imagine, I just decided not to bother with the "free" translator for my PC. Perhaps it would have worked better had I had a PalmPC. However, I use a Blackberry and you do not offer products on that platform. All in all the translator is ok. But, it is obviously created for Germans wanting to learn English and not vice versa. I had originally seen a Russian in my GErman class in Munich using this device. It seemed alot more sophisticated than the one I received.

I ordered the product on the company website: http://www.ectaco.com. Prices are in Canadian dollars. My credit card was billed immediately, but I received no confirmation that the product was shipped. It was shipped 3 days later (the same day I emailed them asking about my order). It arrived via UPS.
Upon noticing that the foreign language I ordered was completely absent from the product I ordered, I contacted customer support via email. I honestly wondered whether I had received the wrong product. I emailed them 3, 7, and 12 days later, without a response. Digging through their website more carefully, I uncovered their "Serbian" page and their "Croatian" pages noted above. The fourth time I emailed them, I said that I was returning the product. I was informed that refunds were not possible, because seven days had expired since I had received the product. I am now taking the issue up with my credit card company. |

I had to return this because the viewing screen was not clear nor the sound had clarity. For $219.95, I felt it was not worth it. The product i purchased was falsely advertised. It said that ebookman 901 came with six dictionaries, when i received my ebookman after extensive calling and emailing i found out that unfortunately the ebookman does not have enough memory. That i have to purchase MMC card which was additional $40 dollar. After purchasing MMC card i could not make the ebookman work anyway, the device just beeped and would not accept the card. I returned the product and have not received refund yet.
Customer service is unacceptable. The lady on the phone would put on hold for 10-15 minutes, on a long distance call and would hang up call back again, and same thing over and over again. Truely disappointed!

I returned the product on 01/07/05 insured mail with the US Post Office and as of 01/18/05 the location in New York states that they have not received the product.
