Full review
I knew nothing about Limoges Jewelry when I ordered from them, other than the fact that I liked their prices.
After searching the site, I realized they sold costume jewelry. Most of the "gemstones" are cubic zirconia or crystals. However, the inexpensive gemstones, such as topaz and amethyst were real in every piece I looked at. On the items I looked at, the gold was plated. There was no mention if it was plated over sterling or not, so I doubt it is.
Why would you want this jewelry?
I'm one of those people with a lot of jewelry. The thing with having a lot of jewelry is that it makes you want more. You begin wearing your rubies when you wear red, and your emeralds when you wear green. But, no matter how much jewelry you own, you still are missing a few pieces that would go perfect with some outfit you own.
Or, if you don't have a lot of jewelry, it is even harder. When special occasions come up and you need a little something on your neckline, you may come up empty handed.
Costume jewelry is perfect for people who won't wear a piece every day. It's perfect for special occasions, or particular outfits when you want to pull the look together. It's also much less expensive to buy costume jewelry.
Why Limoges?
What drew me to Limoges was their super-low prices. There were already low prices on their site. They were having a sale in addition to these low prices. They also offered free shipping with a coupon code I had. Oh, and I was able to go through Ebates and get a 5% rebate.
Limoges also had a free gift with purchase. I was shocked to realize it wasn't a dinky pin or something. You had your choice between four different items that were already for sale on the site. I was very excited.
Packaging
When I finally received my package, I was disappointed. It came in a padded envelope with my jewelry boxes inside, which was fine. However, the jewelry boxes are very dinky. Most were made out of very thin cardboard that looked banged up. One was in a plastic case. It opened like one of the velvet covered jewelry boxes you get from a jewelry store, but it was made out of ugly and thin black plastic.
Quality
Despite the cheap boxes, I was impressed with the quality of the jewelry. All of the necklaces and bracelets I ordered had appropriate clasps. An expensive necklace will often have a lobster-claw clasp, where as the tell-tale sign of a cheap necklace is the round clasp. My necklace had the more expensive lobster-claw clasp. My bracelets also had more expensive clasps. I was so happy not to see round clasps.
I was impressed with the cut, color, and clarity of my stones. The ruby necklace I chose as my freebie matched the color of my genuine ruby earrings and ring. The genuine amethysts that I bought were clear and beautiful stones. I was afraid they'd be full of inclusions, or be cloudy.
I also bought myself a tennis bracelet. I have a few very inexpensive tennis bracelets, and one that is real that I'm afraid to wear. I wanted one that looked real, but at a price I wouldn't cry over if I broke it, or lost it. I have owned gold-plated ones before where the gold began to wear off by the second day I wore it. I wore this one for a week straight, and there was no noticeable loss of the gold, which makes me think it is a thicker plate than some companies use.
Overall
Of course, it would be nice if I had a thousand pieces of jewelry, and all of them were genuine. I'm already lucky to have as many "good" pieces as I have. However, it's nice to beef up you collection a bit, especially at such low prices as Limoges offers.
If you want jewelry to pass down to you children, save your money, and pass by this site. However, if you're looking for inexpensive pieces to compliment particular outfits or events, this might be the perfect store for you!
