At the high prices this company charges I expected a quality piece of luggage that would last a long time. But a Hartman or Andiamo it is not. After a dozen trips I had almost a dozen failures. Beyond the fact that the luggage looked more beat up and frayed then much cheaper luggage I have owned, it literally fell apart. Zipper pulls broke, handles split, a wheel fell off, bumper guards cracked, ...you name it. It got to the point where I would pick up the luggage and think, "Let's see what else was busted this segment of the trip." The final straw was the main carrying handle just broke while I was carrying it and the bag dangled. I called customer service and they wanted over $200 to make it right or they would offer me 30% off of retail to buy a new one as it was 4 years old. They stated the bag was just seeing normal wear and tear and possible airline damage. Thats a convenient excuse for everything but a handle falling apart in my hands?!??! The customer service rep had that "I'm sick of people complaining about our bags and I don't care" arrogant attitude to boot. I tried to escalate it but that was waste of time as well.
Tumi is simply living off the name they got when they were one of the few quality luggages out there. Since then their quality has gone down the tubes and others have begun offering better products for less money. Only a three year warranty for a $800 piece of luggage? That should tell you what Tumi thinks of their product! The next time I'll get a Victorinox or Briggs and Riley as they believe in and stand behind their product with a lifetime warranty.
