Product Description

Like the landmark Les Paul before it, the SG Standard shattered all perceptions of what a guitar could be when it was first introduced in 1961. Today, it stands as one of the most popular and best-selling of all Gibson guitars. Its distinct twin cutaways, pointed horns, and beveled edges have made it one of the most inspired and iconic designs in the history of guitar-making. And not only is it one of the most eye-catching guitar designs, it is also one of the most functional and effective. The streamlined body is a solid, lightweight piece of mahogany, with exceptional resonance to ensure superior tone and greater sustain. Its traditional, 22-fret mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard and rounded profile has long been championed as the fastest guitar neck in the world, and the twin cutaways offer easier access to the higher frets. In the neck position.

Review: Gibson SG Standard Guitar

Back in 1961 Gibson decided to break with tradition by revising the size, shape, and appearance of the Les Paul Standard. The new guitar still had the Les Paul name, but it eventually was given a new name,...

Review: Gibson SG Classic with P90 Pickups

This is a reissue of the early Gibson SG model that was slated to replace the carved top Les Paul model in 1961. When Les Paul balked at the change and asked for his name to be removed, Gibson changed the...

Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar..The Summer Of ?69.. or even 68!

Date of Review:  May 22, 2009
The Bottom Line: A Classic that delivers on tone and performance value!
Review: Gibson is a name that harkens the best feelings in guitar players everywhere. If there are any that are repulsed by the brand, I assure, they are few. The brand was one of the forerunners of instruments that met the needs of an emerging music scene...

Gibson SG Classic Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups, Heritage Cherry
Inspired by the 1960s SG Special, the Gibson SG Classic Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups re-creates the look and sound of the most influential guitar in both Britain and the U.S. during the psychedelic era. It has the original all-mahogany body, dual P-90 pickups, and a bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays.A Little SG History In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsen
