We have had our yaris sedan five speed stick shift for just over a year now. Its a 2008.
First off I must preface this car is a step up for us we traded in a Geo metro with 100K on it so we were used to small small compacts.
That said the yaris two door hatchback that we thought we wanted was toooo small. Our Geo had more room front and back and the two door yaris though cute... had no room for humans in its back seat LOL!
Our yaris sedan is a great car for us, we find the seats a step up in support and size. Best of all AND Ive not read of this in other reviews the seats are very adjustable for this level of model car.
The drivers seat has an easily accessed lever to put its height up or down. That is an awesome function. It also puts you tilted forward a tad more so your feet reach pedals better too. Im not sure how you couldnt see over the flat dash with this function.
This combined with the usual front to back slide adjust to pedals and slide adjust seatbelts, makes this budget car very adjustable and comfortable. My husband is 6 foot 1 (300 Lbs) and he has plenty of room in the car with that height adjust function previously mentioned.
We like the speedometer in the center and it took hardly anytime at all to get used to it, in fact we feel it takes your eyes off the road less to glance sideways rather then down. Id prefer this in my future cars frankly.
We consistantly get 40 mi to gallon, we live in suburbs and high way drive a bit too. We do hills and flats in the upper NE USA.
There is a slight blindspot during back up as back seat and back dash sit high, however it has good side mirrors and once youre aware of it its not a problem.
The electronic ignition or throttle rather was something we had to get used too, we hadnt had that in the past and thought the car shifted funny. Till someone explained it to us and now we dont notice it and shift in time just fine.
It has multiple cup holders which seems to be a big selling factor though we hadnt considered it a matter.
The air conditioning runs great, beware though the car does not come standard with a cabin air filter found behind the glove box, I got my salesman to throw one in for free.
The standard stereo sounds great too as does disc and mp3 function.
The cabin light can be set to come on and fade on car shut off and door fucntions and there is a smaller light up front but they are bright as a prev review mentioned. NO glove box light, that is missed.
The trunk if very roomy and our seats go down for extra space though things have to be put under the back dash, as we were used to a full hatch. We have still found it very easy to haul things.
We find our yaris very dependable and easy to drive.
Highway driving is good too, yes in high wind and large truck passing you can feel it, but remember we came from a geo metro so this car is better. I did however expect a tad more from a toyota and the same goes for road noise. Though neither is that bad. And still better then our metro was.
This car does ride a step above a two door smaller car.
I find the paint to be durable on car body and bumpers.
Again we came from a geo metro and the paint peeled off the bumpers from day one and the body of car chipped easily.
The toyotas bumper pops right back into shape and on with minor manipulation if you fender bend.
However the rubber of the bumper gets shredded up but paint doesnt continue to peel.
We did find the corollas less roomy and less asthetically sporty on the outside.
Over all I find the car awesome to own.
I suppose if you went from top line models down, you would notice a difference but for us this car is awesome I highly recomend it.
