-On my top ten of all time list-

Date of Review:  Oct 24, 2001
The Bottom Line: Eggers didn't achieve class-favorite status for nothing. We'll see lots more of him in the future. This will not be topped though - without a doubt staggering in its genius.
Review: Pre-Read Initial Impression
I must admit that a year before I had the pleasure of discovering Eggers for myself I noticed Staggering Genius' title in the New York Times Top 10 Best Sellers list and laughed at the Author's apparent audacity. It...

A Hardgoing Work of a Staggering Bore

Date of Review:  Mar 18, 2001
The Bottom Line: Only try reading if you suffer from insomnia. Review submitted by G L Bickley (for and on behalf of the Bush Book Club)
Review: I have come to the conclusion that David Eggers has an excellent publicist. Rave reviews and award nominations led me to believe that I was going to be in for a good read. This did not materialise.

Looking at the other opinions on...

Stagger? Eggers? Not A Chance.

Date of Review:  Mar 16, 2000
Review: Genius. Pure genius. That may even be an understatement. Eggers has delivered an amazing tale of sarcasm, humor and emotion that literally has you laughing out loud. His scenes of apartment hunting and finding the perfect sock-slide area is...

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius: A Nearly Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius

Date of Review:  Jan 11, 2006
The Bottom Line: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius showcases Dave Eggers' unique and extraordinary talent, but it needed an editor.
Review: When I saw the Michiko Kakutani quote on the cover of Dave Eggers' first novel praising it as "a virtuosic piece of writing" this and a "manic-depressive stew of a book" that, I knew it had to be worth picking up. I'm an avid reader of the New York...

This Epinion as well my others are on hiatus.

In the event Epinions gets up and running smoothly, it may return. It is hard to dedicate a meaningful chunk of your life only to find that your efforts...

This is a frickin' Awesome Memoir

Date of Review:  Aug 17, 2000
Review: I'm not usually a huge fan of memoirs, but Dave Egger's book definitely grabbed me. Not only does it talk about places in San Francisco where I've hung out, but he sums up the laughter and pain that come with any death or change in a family. He's...

Unthinkable Tragedy, Irresistible Memoir

Date of Review:  Dec 3, 2000
Review: Dave Eggers?s story is seismically heart breaking. In the span of 30 days both of his parents die of cancer, leaving him (age 21) and his sister Beth (age 23) to raise their 8-year-old brother Toph. Alongside the agony of these circumstances,...

small and disgusting

Date of Review:  Feb 4, 2001
The Bottom Line: If you really want your heart broken then find the author and talk to him in person, I'm sure it'd be a better experience.
Review: Compared to Kirkegaard (as on the book jacket,) Heartbreak is foolhardy at best. A long, laboring memoir powdered liberally with tongue-in-cheek-isms, elbows-to-the-ribs, smarmy winks and perpetual one-ups. For being non-fiction it is filled with...

Dave Eggers: Catcher In The Rye

Date of Review:  Mar 25, 2000
Review: Simply put, Dave Eggers has accurately summarized his entire book within the title itself. Eggers' heartbreaking life story will make you stagger at his ingenius depiction of it. Yet even the title has it's own controversy. What is so unfortunate...

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius: A Staggering Work of Heartbreaking Narcissism

Date of Review:  Aug 1, 2004
The Bottom Line: The Bottom Line thinks that Dave Eggers is a narcissist if this book is to be believed.
Review: Last summer, when I was on bedrest during my final pregnancy, three of my girlfriends got together and sent me a care package of books, magazines, and other fun things. One of the books, to my delight, was Dave Eggers' A Heartbreaking Work of...
