The best widescreen you can get for the price

f you wish to get the highest quality images out of this LCD monitor probably best to ensure you have the video hardware and associated drivers that will support its native resolution of 1440 x 900. Most newer hardware should support this resolution. I tried a machine from 2004 and another from 2005 each with different video hardware and neither provided support for 1440 x 900 resolution.


The tilt mechanism appears well designed. The hing is fairly stiff. To tilt, best to put one hand on the base and the other cupped around the bottom of the screen. Use your hand holding the bottom of the screen to gently and gradually pull or push the screen into the proper position. Care should be taken not to touch the controls on the screen bottom but instead just touch the back side or front bottom frame of the screen. When tilting down one might try cupping one's hand around the top instead.


Though I haven't tried it, the option seems to exist to simultaneously hookup both a DVI and VGA input and switch between them with the on screen monitor controls. There are several default display setting modes which include text, movie, and images. I watched a movie off a DVD and was very happy with the quality.


Text and desktop viewing quality seems less than I would have expected but this may be due to any combination of factors. For instance I'm not running at the monitors native resolution. It will be interesting to see how the quality improves when I try a video card that supports 1440x900 at which time I should also be able to try DVI input in place of VGA.


I liked the fact that it has a 3yr warranty. Some LCD monitors carry only a 1yr warranty.


I have yet to see any dead pixels.


Overall I would recommend this monitor.
