Great machine for the design professional

Date of Review: Jan 21, 2007

The Bottom Line:  Great performance and ease of use for the design professional
I've used PCs and Macs for doing CADD and I 've been well served by both, but still where PC networks require dedicated technical support, I find Mac networks are less dependant (on TS). I work currently in a Mac environment, and so I wanted to be able to work sometimes at home; but, I didn't want a space-consuming tower and, I wanted portability. So I bought a 19" Samsung flatscreen and this Macbook. I also find that the MacOS is way easier to navigate, maintain and trouble shoot than Windows.

The chip is powerful enough to use the #D and 2D software that we use, and will be even better, once our software gets re-released as 'Universal'.

The MacBook powers the two screens as an extra large desktop. I can arrange the virtual layout of this desktop in the control panel on the fly, which is very practical. It also knows to adapt to to one or two screens automatically and remember the previous settings.

I love how it found my home wireless network out of the box, and how it will search for for others (wireless networks) when I am not at home.

It has amazing multimedia tools included, including I-Movie, I-DVD, and Garage Band. So basically everyone can become a capable home-filmmaker.

I haven't tried using windows on the this machine yet, but i will in the future. Another plus.

Finally, in terms of starpower and design, nothing beats the MacBook!

July '07 update:
I have been using it hard with large Archicad and Sketchup 3d models, Artlantis rendering, Imovie presentations (of animations). It's been working very well.
