Author's Review
One of my passions in life is music, so after having my 30 gig Ipod for a few years I realized I was going to have to get an Ipod with more space on it. Luckily one of my friends was selling his 80 gig and I bought it from him, and so far it has been working great. There are plenty of MP3 players on the market and Apple has been consistently dominating that market since the release of the Ipod, for a good reason.
Design
The design of the Ipod has not changed much since their introduction. The simple set up of the click wheel is still a great function. You scroll down through menus using the wheel which has good sensitivity and can skip forward, backward, pause/play, and go to the previous menu set all on the click wheel.
Menu options
The settings menu allows you to change and fix many things about your Ipod so it can align to your taste.. The maximum volume and other volume options can be adjusted, the back light timer can be changed, the brightness can be altered, and the shuffle option can be turned on and off. As well as general information about the Ipod is shown. The extras menu allows you to set an alarm clock and change the time if necessary. Games can also be accessed and it comes with solitaire, music quiz, brick, and parachute, additional games can be purchased such as Tetris and Zuma. Other extras such as a stop watch, contacts, calendar, and notes can be stored.
Like previous Ipod videos, you can store photos which wont take up much room but I have never held photos on my ipod. Like most recent Ipods, this one can hold videos and plenty of them. So far I have 99 movies stored on my Ipod. Most are seasons of shows and some movies. The movies dont disappoint on this ipod as the screen is slightly bigger than previous generations and can come in good quality. The music capabilities are the reason to buy this ipod. The technology hasnt changed since the ipods arrival, but the amount of songs it can hold is incredible. I dont plan on filling up my ipod anytime soon even though I have way more music than I can listen to. With 80 gigs of space on the ipod this is a good choice for hard core music lovers, the only other Ipod with more space is the 160 gig model but this makes for a good alternative since the 160 version is quite expensive. With the capability to hold 20,000 songs I would think this would be enough for most people.
Battery
The battery life only improves with each Ipod version so this ipod has a pretty good battery life. I take it to school each day and can easily last a week before it is anywhere close to being in the red. Im not sure exactly how many hours the battery is supposed to last for but the battery has not been a problem for me. The battery will wear down after a the ipod has been owned for a long time but that has not happened to me yet. Some ways to conserve battery life, is to limit the use of the back light and set it on a lower setting, and also to limit the amount of times you plug the ipod in your computer.
Music/movie management
Like the previous Ipod models, this ipod uses Itunes to manage just about everything that goes on your ipod. Itunes is convenient to use and importing albums is easy and it is easy to transfer them on your ipod. I have never encountered any real problems using Itunes to manage my ipod except for the occasional problem of putting a song on your ipod that will not play but that is an easy problem to fix, just delete it and put the song on there again. Itunes is free so aside from the ipod costs, it is free to manage your ipod.
Overall the Apple Ipod 80 gig is a smart buy as it contains a lot of space and is perfect for any music player. When it comes to space Apple Ipods remain the best choice for their price, capabilities, and convenience. The only real flaw is that the screen can scratch and finger prints are left which is why it is smart to buy a case for the ipod. It is also a little bulky and big, this doesnt personally bother me, but it might be a slight annoyance for some people. In short, if youre looking for a reliable MP3 player with lots of storage, the Ipod 80 gig is a smart choice.
