a nice MP3 player, if youre starting out
Pros:
Small, battery is long lasting, popular
Cons:
it might be too small, gets lost easy, iTunes only works with ipod
The Bottom Line:
This is a neat and really powerful music only player, but the itunes software stops you from buying another player, as all the music is locked to itunes

Author's Review
My parents had just gotten one of these free in a raffle at work. It was neat, but only if you are just starting out in MP3 players, as your entire library needs to be in iTunes, so people like me, who have been collecting MP3s for years, it was horrible, as every single MP3 i had was in need of a conversion into iTunes, and i have around 3 gigs of music. But if you still have all the disks, its an easy process called "ripping" which is the conversion of a disk into a file. Also, note that the iPods are ONLY compatable with iTunes, nothing else, and nothing else is compatable with iTunes, only Apple's MP3 players work with it.
THE HARDWARE
I like the iPod because its tiny, it has a rare, and powerful Lithium-ion polymer, which is a modified version of plain lithium ion batteries, as it is extremly durable, its gonna last a long time, and it was designed to take constant whenever charging, do you dont need to discharge it to charge it like when you had Ni-Cd or Ni-Mh batteries, who would get a memory effect, not true with Li-Po batteries.
I also found the way it connected to the computer unique, as it uses the headphone jack for charging, data, and an audio jack for headphones. The little base it comes in has a little headphone jack that plugs into the iPod, and connects to the computer with a USB plug. The data transfers at a bit of a slow rate comparing it to my USB 2.0 MP3 players on windows media player(only diference between USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 is speed, 1.1 is slower than 2.0).
The player itself doesnt have a screen, so youre not gonna want to put a ton of MP3s on here, because its like a small CD player with no screen, you gotta skip and listen untill you find the song you want. It does hafe fast-forward and rewind, so you can seek to a certain spot on the song, you do this by holding down the skip forward or skip back buttons for a few seconds, and it jumps back or forward or back 5 seconds, plays a small bit so you know whare you are in a song.
SOFTWARE
The software that comes with this is called iTunes and it lets you organize all your songs, and dump them into an iPod. Built in the iTunes software is a menu called the iTunes store, which is a neat little market for music, movies, and music videos. Every song is about 99 cents per track, but by buying an entire albumb, you can save a few dollars than if you had bought every song by itself. Because this has no screen, you cant watch movies or music videos, but you can watch purchased content on your computer, but only in itunes. Purchasing music is really easy, just create an account, and add credit card information so they can bill you for the songs you buy, or enter in a iTunes giftcard.
