Author's Review
OK, I should have know better than to hope this floral would be a winner. Florals have almost always failed me, especially the big bouquet variety. Single note floral fragrances seem to work better with my chemistry. However, I just don't find them to be very sophisticated.
But, who could resist such a fabulous Ad campaign? I couldn't. The beautiful Catherine Zeta Jones in a gorgeous red evening gown created to even resemble a beautiful door looking so sultry and alluring while wearing/modeling this fragrance. She is a perfect spokes model to breath new life into a fifteen year old perfume. (Yep, came out in 1989.) Most of us want to be her. But since we can't, we'll settle on smelling like her. So, I bought this Red Door perfume. It smelled good in the magazine ad sample! But on me, a minor disappointment.
I applied this perfume on my pulse points and waited for the magic to unfold. It smelled strong, but not noxious, on application. As I waited for it to dry, I smelled a big, bold, bouquet of flowers with top notes of fruity/rose being most prominent. As it settled down the middle notes of lily of the valley and jasmine came to the forefront. At this point the fragrance was still enjoyable. In a few hours it became a dusty, musty, old lady smell according to my husband and 16 year old daughter. I had to agree with them. Up to this point I still wanted to like it. I continued to wear it daily, for a week, to see if any one I knew or if a polite stranger would compliment my fragrance. No one did. Not a yea or nay was uttered. With the receipt and real disappointment, I returned it for a full refund on my credit card. Thanks department stores for this courtesy!
For those of you who love a good floral, give Red Door a try. It is classified as a Luxurious, Flowery scent perfect for romantic moments. It is recommended as an evening perfume but, I know women who wear it all day long and love it.
Elizabeth Arden describes Red Door as floral, fruity, sweet-ambery fragrance. It is an elegant, sensuous blend of deep, rich florals featuring a captivating scent that fills the senses. Top notes of ylang ylang, rose and fruity nuances merge with middle notes of rare oriental orchid, jasmine. lily of the valley, Moroccan orange flowers, forest lilies, freesia, carnation and a touch of wild violets. The romantic final notes leave a sensual impression of oakmoss, sandalwood, vetiver, a hint of honey and musk. Overall Red Door is a very feminine, beautiful scent. Definitely worth a try. It just didn't work for me!
The packaging is classically, elegant as you can see from the provided picture. Red cap, clear glass with nicely tinted perfume. It is tall and graceful. It uses a spray pump method for application. Looks good on display.
Red Door comes with a host of supporting products. From perfume to deodorant and everything in between. Gift packages are usually the most economic way to purchase. These are available during holiday seasons from Elizabeth Arden. I recently saw a gift pack including perfume, body lotion and bath gel for sale at CVS Drug Stores for 19.95. So shop around, better prices can be found.
