Author's Review
My wife was driving a 1999 Chrysler 300M with 76,000 long, expensive, painful miles when about a year ago she came home asking me what I knew about the Audi TT. Other than it being German I told her, nothing. My wifes shopping habbits are usually by site, not performance so I knew she was interested in the Audi only for it's looks.
A year passed and she still was inquiring about the Audi, and no longer wanting to spend a $1000 again in repairs (AC compressor blew up, interior lights flicker off and on even when the car is turned off, master cylinder was leaking, and drivers side wheel bearings making lots of noise)for the 300M, we decided to test-drive a TT. We first test-drove a new black 2006 quattro coupe. She came back smiling from ear to ear. That car was sweeeet! But, it's price tag was a little more than what we wanted to spend, so another month went by and we test-drove a 2005 FWD 180hp base model. Its was still better than the old Chrysler, but nowhere near the performance, and fun of the quattro, so we decided to pass on that one as well. Another month went by and we came accross a used 2003 Audi TT conv. 225hp with the "baseball" leather interior. The rest is history!
The car is flat out a blast to drive! It's worth its wieght in gold! I was very suprised at its performance for the price. It's styling does turn heads, and above 80mph the turbo really shows off. It does however have slight turbo lag, which is expected in a 4 cyl. turbo car. The handleing is very good around exit ramps, and twisties. The TT always remains very stable and well behaved when pushed to its limits and believe me, I have done alot of pushing. The conv. has suprisingly low noise when the top is up even at high speeds. However, with the top down you really get whipped by the wind, and you have to speak up and lidten really close to have a conversation with your spouse at speeds over 65mph. Overall, its a excellent purchase, and you will LOVE driving it for a long time. Buy it now, if you can!!!
