Band of Brothers is like a 10 hour version of Saving Private Ryan

Band of Brothers is the breathe taking new miniseries from Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. Hanks even directs one episode. It can currently be seen on HBO in one hour episodes, and there are 10 total episodes.

Band of Brothers is based on the true story of Easy Company during World War II. Each person in the show is based on a real life soldier. The first episode shows the men going through basic training, and each following episodes details some of the events surrounding the company as the war progresses.

Each show is one hour long, and begins with a few minutes of interviews with some of the actual men who served in this company. What these guys have to say about their younger days can really make you be glad you were not there. I have the utmost respect for anybody who had to go through some of the things I've seen in this show.

Band of Brothers has different directors for each episode, but they all follow the look and feel of Saving Private Ryan. Each episode either details a certain location or battle, and brings focus on a few different main characters. The idea is that everyone gets enough screen time so that the audience can understand every part of what went on over there.

Every episode of Band of Brothers is full of Saving Private Ryan style action. This means that there are lots of explosions and blood, and is not meant to be watched by children or people with weak stomachs. Sure it is hard to look at sometimes, but what you see on screen is what many thousands of men had to see first hand for many days or weeks during World War II. I would rather not even try to imagine what that was like in real life.

With what is going on in the world today, a show such as this is certainly inspiring and I know many people are glued to HBO every Sunday night for each new episode. Since new shows debut on Sundays, HBO reruns the same show several times during the week, so you can catch it at a time which best suits your schedule.

Bottom line is that if you like well-done, realistic war films, you need to be watching this show.
