Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L USM - An Optical Masterpiece

Date of Review:  Mar 29, 2009
The Bottom Line: The Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L USM is the best event and people walkaround zoom lens for a full-frame camera. An absolute must for wedding photographers!
Review: As I have grown as a photographer, I have begun to do more and more. I have finally realized where my "sweet spots" for focal lengths are in terms of shooting. My main passion is people and event photography. In fact, I have started to do a little...

Wider really is better...

Date of Review:  Jul 10, 2000
Review: After I purchased a Canon EOS 3 body, I found that it would only use the fancy AF mechanisms with f/2.8 lenses (like the EOS 1n). If this was a scam on the part of Canon to get more people to by L lenses, it worked on me!

Sharp, nice images, robust lens -- my favorite

Date of Review:  Apr 25, 2006
The Bottom Line: Best lens for 24-70mm range along with a long term commitment to Canon equipment
Review: I had an excellent experience with my Canon G3 since I acquired it in the summer of 2003. However, after taking thousands of photos with that camera, I realized I needed more flexibility when shooting people and places. In particular, I needed a...

The best 4 star lens I have ever seen.

Date of Review:  Mar 6, 2008
The Bottom Line: Even though I have given this lens a 4-star rating, I would not hesitate to recommend this lens to anyone. It's a fast lens that covers the "normal" focal lengths.
Review: Twelve hundred dollars for a lens with a focal range of only 24-70mm???? That sounds like an awful lot of money doesn't it? The question is…Is the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L USM worth it? You betcha! Even though this lens has a relatively short zoom...

Not exactly an L class lens in my book, but still a good performer.

Date of Review:  Aug 2, 2002
The Bottom Line: Great color and contrast plus excellent built-to-last build quality overshadows the fact that it's less than perfect in the sharpness department compared to other L's.
Review: Most digital photographers have a dirty little secret. While we take stunning quality photos at up to 6 megapixels or better with our big digital SLR's, we're severely crippled in the wide angle photography department. Most digital SLR cameras have...

Amazing lens

Date of Review:  Jan 7, 2007
Review: I have used this lens on my 30D for a bit now. The quality on this lens is amazing and i get sharp pictures everytime. The image quality that this lens produces is great in my opinion. I switched from the 18-55 kit lens which felt like a toy...

heavy weight lens

Date of Review:  May 7, 2008
The Bottom Line: Love it, buy it, enjoy it, live it, click it
Review: This lens is a heavy weight both in that it is as good it gets when it comes to color and contrast and its weight.

But, if you can stand to carry it, you will be glad you did. It is often called, the wedding photographer lens because of...

Recommended for wedding photographers

Date of Review:  Mar 29, 2004
The Bottom Line: After 35 years of shooting nearly everything with a camera, I can say without reservation this is a keeper.
Review: After 35 years of shooting mainly with prime lenses I broke down and purchased my first wide angle zoom and a L-series at that and I have no regrets. Compared with my Canon 24, 28, 35, 50 and 85 primes this lens is very good and in a few cases...

The 24-70 f2.8L

Date of Review:  Mar 18, 2007
Review: snoboarder has very accurately described it so far.

I can only add that I too enjoy the feel and size used on my Canon 30D.
I just attended a snowmobile show in Mpls Mn, and this format worked perfect.

I have to admit the...

24-70 L lens

Date of Review:  Jul 28, 2006
Review: Don't buy it...I thought I would get amazing clarity with a high end Canon lens, especially at $1300. I was wrong--this lens often doesn't give sharp images. Most often with wide angle range, the images are soft or blurry. This happens with my...
