A good printer for the money
Date of Review: Feb 21, 2008
The Bottom Line: good value and very useful; user friendly and convenient.
I got this printer as a Christmas present last year - 2006. So I've been using it a little over a year now with no problems. I had an Epson before, that broke in what seemed like a day after the warranty ended. Taking it apart revealed to me that it was made with very flimsy parts - no doubt an example of 'planned obsolescence.' I would recommend this Canon printer over the Epson; both print very well and the Canon seems sturdier. The interface software for the scanner is easy to use. I haven't had the need to do much photo-editing, and when I do I ordinarily use other programs, so I can't comment on that except to say that the few times I've played with the Canon version it seemed to be fairly straightforward and useful. One of the features I especially like about this printer is that it has little slots in the front where you can directly put a memory card - works with at least three formats, too, so you don't have to load photos from your camera into your computer first if you don't want to. Ink is a little pricey, but that is true for literally every inkjet printer out there these days, so in that regard they're just status quo. One thing I should mention is that the type of paper you use with the printer seems to make a difference; pictures come out fine with any, but exceptional with Canon paper. I do recommend this printer to anyone interested.
