Same car?

Date of Review: Sep 16, 2006

The Bottom Line:  Another sub-par GM product.. watching them sadly, slowly, die.
This car is absolute rubbish. Reviewiers here who like it, have you driven any European or Japanese cars, ever? I have the misfortune to be renting one and impressions are bad. Styling is a matter of taste so I won't comment except to say the view out the front is periscope-like for me (at 6' 3" tall I can't see up to street lights, for instance). The interior is plasticy, built to a price, I understand, but I've searched in vain for how to turn on the lights inside other than opening the back door and turning on from the switch on the light itself! The ergonomics of GM products just plain stink, they should fire the lot of them and hire whoever works for Honda or Mazda, for instance. The next impression I got was of the wheezy, unpleasant sounding, weak engine. It makes power... eventually, but at that point the typically awful sounds of EVERY SINGLE four cylinder engine GM has ever produced comes out. Why, oh why can't they just make an engine that likes to be revved? My 1972 Fiat had a sweet four cylinder that got better (smoother, nice sounds) the harder you caned it. GM's sound like a bag of rocks. Other than these standout 'features', i.e. compromised and downright bad ergonomics, cheap and cheezy interior, and basic driving dynamics, it seems to be, err... capable of starting and driving down the street with people inside. Hey GM - go buy a Mazda or Honda and steal their ideas. Better yet, fire the marketing guys, cause I think they are the ones that hold your engineers back. As an American, I know we can do better than to serve up continual rental fleet fodder.

Pros
It MUST be cheap. I wouldn't pay more than 15K for one.
Cons
Too many to list.
