Everything I said above.
The Bottom Line:

I recently purchased online a Comfort Aire Dehumidifier BHD-501. After a couple of days I thought it was not working properly. With the humistat set at 55 it would quickly (within a minute or less)show the humidity at 50% and the machine would shut off as expected. But, within another 90 seconds, the indoor humidity would read 65% and the machine would cycle on again. This was a constant process. I contacted their customer service department and they agreed to replace the machine and the new one arrived a week later. At first it seemed okay, but again this new machine was doing the same thing. I then oontacted the manufacturer and spoke to a specialist there, who said the reason for this happening is that the sensor which reads the humidity is too sensitive and is picking up the moisture in the bucket. His suggestion to me (which he says he does himself with his at home)is to set the timer for 2hours, in which case the machine runs for 2 hours, shuts off for 2, then starts again etc. Well what good is an advertizied humistat that supposedly reads indoor humidity whent he system is flawed by design and it reads the humidity in the bucket. The reason for having a humistat is to not run your machine when it is not necessary. Having the use the time defeats the whole purpose. One other thing, the second machine is terrificially noisey and not at all quite like advertised. It is quieter when the compressor is not on, but as soon as the compressor comes on i can hear up upstairs in my two bedroom home. The machine is placed in the basement! And by the way, concerning my first machine which was never picked up by the manufacture: that machine was infinitely quieter than the second and so, given that I now knew that the first machine was normal in its abnormality, I started using it because of the quiet and set the timer at 2 hours. HOwever, after I emptied the bucket the first time under that setting, all the controls stopped working, ie the prower button, the timer, the fan speed. All you could do was unplug it if you wanted it to stopped and plug it in to start it. Also the fan speed reset itself to high instead of low where i set it and it cant be corrected due to the control panel not working. I would send the junky thing back except that, given I bought it online from ACE Hardware, their policy for returns involves me having to pay for the shipping and a restocking fee before they will refund me anything. Given all the aggravation I have had getting the replacement and actually using it, it would cost me more in money, time and headache to do so.
