Pros:  All the comics news that's fit to print

Cons:  Lacks the glitz that many fans might crave

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

Don't be fooled by the title...Comic Buyer's Guide is about "investing" in comic books the way Time is about chronology.

What CBG really is, as a matter of fact, is a lovingly produced quality fanzine. Each week, it offers some solid stories, a host of columnists whose work, in any given issue, can be sublime, and the latest news (of course, in this era of the Internet, no publication, not even a daily, can hope to provide up-to-the-minute coverage of anything anymore).

Editor Maggie Thompson (carrying on the tradition of excellence she first established nearly thirty years ago with her late husband, Don) continues to turn out a quality publication every seven days, which is no mean feat! Printed on newsprint, with a limited use of color inks, it has the look of a tabloid newspaper. But CBG is no impartial journal of staid events...it is a weekly tribute to that distinctive American art form, the comic book, produced by an intrepid band of fans. It's impossible not to enjoy reading it, because so much fun is evident behind the scenes.
