Author's Review

Since I never look a gift horse in the mouth, I graciously opened this lovely bottle of Cognac after lunch. Immediately upon opening, we were intoxicated with the familiar sweet oak bouquet of this spirit. Yum!

Courvoisier VSOP is considered by many to be the best Cognac available in the world. Include me in that list as now, 3 hours later, I have sipped my way through enough to make the edges of the room a little soft. Cognac is normally drank from a snifter, a wide rimmed glass like red wine glasses, in order to fully appreciate the bouquet. Holding the glass between your palms opens up the scent quickly. Heaven. To me, the nose is reminiscent of flowers and orange blossoms, with an underlying hint of oak and earth. This Cognac is aged in oak barrels for 8-12 years.

The color of Cognac is amber or golden, and the light from the setting sun was stunning through my own glass. Did I mention that Courvoisier should be slowly sipped in order to appreciate its richness? Just because I overindulge, doesn't mean you should.

Courvoisier VSOP is best after a meal - who needs dessert? I believe a bottle of VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) can be bought for approximately $30.00 USD. Oh, and if VSOP is too rich for your tastes or if you aren't sure whether you will like Cognac, I recommend the regular Courvoisier, which can be had for $10.00. Trust me, it is well worth the price and it should last for a while - unless you have me over for lunch. Then you'd better get two bottles. Courvoisier VSOP also makes an excellent gift.
