Great performance and great price!

I am a Comcast internet user. I have read about all the problems on the internet people were having using this modem with Comcast internet service. I bought this modem at Best Buy for $59.99 with a $10 rebate. This is cheaper than the $80 they were asking for the Motorola and Linksys modems. I figured, if it doesn't work I'll just bring it back. Anyway, before my internet service was installed I asked Comcast and DLink if there would be any problems using this modem and they both said NO. The day my internet service was installed, it worked! I get about 5Mbs down and around 350Mbs up. The connection rate varies, but not by much. I notice that I get slightly faster connections if I plug the modem directly to my ethernet card rather than going through the router. I guess my router must be slowing things down a bit. Not a big deal, though.

I have not had any problems with the modem dropping connections. Nor, does it get very hot. This modem is quite smaller than the Linksys and Motorola. It can either be flat or stand up. Lights are for Power, Cable, Status, Ethernet and USB. This modem is DOCSIS 2 compliant.

I used to have Verizon DSL for about three years. The service was very good and the price was right. However, I live 18,000 feet from their CO, which is pretty far for a DSL signal to travel. Speed upgrades for me were out of the question because my modem would lose sync at anything faster than 1Mbs. That is not enough for VoIP. Verizon says FIOS will come to my neighborhood someday, but they don't know when. Now, with VoIP in use, we needed more bandwidth and only Comcast had what we needed TODAY. The latency and cost of satellite internet connections made them unfeasable.

I like this modem. I have tried it both with it's USB and ethernet interface. Both work well. USB drivers installed with no problem. It really is plug & play. There is also a web admin interface at 192.168.100.1. If you read the file that comes with the Comcast upgrade, it tells you how to use this interface. It doesn't let you change any of the operating parameters. However, you can look at your connection stats and other useful information.

If you go to Hitron's website at www.hitrontech.com, this modem looks like their BRG-3520T cablemodem. So, I don't know if DLink actually made this modem, reselling this modem for Hitron or just using Hitron's chips. You'll notice that Hitron's model has the same case with the holes in it, though. Hitron does not have the updated Comcast drivers available on their website.

Maybe, DLink had some problems with this modem when it was first released. However, I like it and recommend it. DLink is known to make good and affordable products. For the money you can't go wrong.
