The Bottom Line: If you insist on running an ozone purifier - set it up right You have to decide if it is worth the risk.
Do your research on ozone. Ozone IS natural, but not constantly in the lower atmosphere or IN YOUR HOUSE. constant exposure to ozone corrodes ALL household metals, even stainless steel. It also breaks down common 'harmless' and 'approved' chemicals in many household products. You should worry MORE about VOC content if you are running one of these machines."The products of the reactions between ozone and many common indoor pollutants include organic compounds that may be more odorous, irritating, or toxic than those from which they are formed. These products of ozone chemistry include formaldehyde, higher molecular weight aldehydes, acidic aerosols, and fine and ultrafine particles, among others."(FYI - these are worse for you then stinky diapers or cat dander) Particularly, there is concern with 'citrus based' cleaning products and how quickly they break down into toxic chemicals when exposed to ozone.
Frankly the nomenclature and research that Ecoquest provides with these units is FAR from adequate. (the diagrams on the box are absolutely hilarious) Setting one of these buzzing boxes up so that you dont get a noxious odor OR a faint cough OR a soar throat is pretty much hit or miss. The placement recomendations are vague, as are the square footage requirements. There are simply to many variables from home to home to allow this kind of ozone purification in the home. That is why California is already BANNING ozone emiting air purifiers from indoor use. These machines are finally going to have to be tested and approved for use. The basis: that they only emit so much ozone. SIMPLE. So why hasent Ecoquest done this already?
Freshair raises too many questions. Biscuits! just read about it on wiki. You have to decide if the risk is worth it. I wouldt recommend this product on the price alone - let alone the risk factor.
FYI - I got mine for free. So I think I am pretty unbiased.
