If nosebleeds are an issue, or if you use a humidifier, DO NOT BUY THIS!!
Date of Review: Mar 18, 2006
The Bottom Line: It was irresponsible, at the least, for the EcoQuest rep to sell me a machine that significantly damaged my health. Therefore, I would NOT recommend the FreshAir to anyone.
Frequent, heavy nosebleeds (due to overly dry nasal membranes) are a major health concern of mine. In the winter especially, I use humidifiers, nasal moisturizers, and NO heater in my house! Prior to purchasing the Fresh Air Purifier, I spoke extensively to the Ecoquest rep about my various health concerns, including the nosebleeds and my need for moist air, etc. He replied that this unit would be perfect for me. I bought one for myself and one for my parents at $749/each. After using mine for a few days, I had my worst nosebleed to date. When I returned home from the ER, I began following doctors orders to rest, with no strenuous/physical activities for 3 weeks. Within a day or two, I woke up to a nosebleed. I was able to stop it after approx 30 minutes, so I didn't call my doctor. Over the next 4 days, I experienced daily nosebleeds. My doctor referred me to an ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist who said the inside of my nose was among the worst he'd seen, and typical of nasal spray or drug users (I've never tried either). At first, he couldn't figure out why I had this problem and, especially, why it had suddenly become even worse. Then I mentioned my purifier and he said "Ohhh, turn THAT off. It's pulling all the moisture out of the air!" Wow, would have been nice of the Ecoquest rep to share that very significant detail with me. Makes me wonder, was he trying to make a sale, or just uninformed?
