DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN eBookMan

by   darylveal ,   Mar 27, 2003

Pros:  You can get this device for $35-50 US at Costco- Price Club

Cons:  Too numerous to summarize here!

The Bottom Line:  I'D RATHER HAVE MY EYEBALLS SEARED WITH HOT KNITTING NEEDLES THAN USE THIS DEVICE OR AUDIBLE.COM AGAIN

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

Don't waste your money on an eBookMan. I recently purchased the top of the line 911 from Costco for only $50 which is only 25 of the advertised price and it still was not worth the money. The eBookMan does not do anything well. The screen is too small and not backlit making it virtually useless and unreadable. The O/S system must be downloaded via the internet before you can use the device. The memory is too small and the interface is clumsy and cumbersom.
Once you get past all of these problems, the thing does not work. Franklin's version of Intelligent Sync rarely works and users are forced to rebook or reinstall the O/S.
The sound quality of this device is terrible-equal to that of a 1960's fm radio. Don't even try to download content from any of the websites the eBookMan is purportedly configured to use, especially Audible.com. Your grandchildren will be graduating college before you successfully download a single audiobook or radio program.
The user manual was clearly written by someone for whom English was second language.
Further, Franklin rips you off by overcharging for MMC cards and you must buy MMC cards if you wish to store anything in this device.
The most frustrating thing about this device is the false expectations developed by Franklin's misleading advertising and the weak tech support. You must write Franklin and e-mail and if they get around to it they may respond, although the response most likely will not address your problem. You will have the same experience with Audible.com.
Audible is merely interested in getting your credit card number so they can continue to bill your card long after you have given up trying to access their content.

THE EBOOKMAN HAD THE LOWEST CUSTOMER SATISFACTION OF ANY TECH DEVICE I HAVE USED.

SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE
