Better Than My First Snuggli

Date of Review: Jun 1, 2000

The Bottom Line:  This is a good product for new parents to have
I recently borrowed this Evenflo Snugli Celebration Front & Back Pack from a friend who's baby had outgrown it. She recommended that I try it because the carrier that I had was very uncomfortable when worn as a backpack. (I'm not even sure the old one was meant to be worn as a back carrier but when I tried it, it didn't feel right)

The Snugli Celebration Pack, however felt much more comfortable for me and the baby seemed happy while riding in it on my back. I did try it as a front carrier with the baby facing outwards, but my baby is now about 17 pounds and this did not feel comfortable to me. I felt like the baby was just too heavy in this position--I don't think that it was the fault of the carrier. If I had had this carrier when the baby was lighter, it may have worked better for me on the front.

My friend has used this carrier with her babies when they were infants and said that it worked just as well as a front carrier as a back carrier. She recommended that as soon as the baby is big enough to hold it's head up alone then to use it with the baby facing out so that baby can see the world.

I know that the previous carrier that I had (which was also an Evenflo Snuggli--the Comfort Supreme Soft Carrier) worked very well when my baby was an infant as a front carrier. I used it with the baby facing me for several months and it was great to be able to take baby along, hand free to do chores. I believe that with small babies, this Snuggli Celebration Pack would be great as a front pack as well since it is built in a similar fashion.

I had planned to use the previous carrier that I had for our summer vacation this year. It would not have been satisfactory! I am glad that my friend lent me this Snuggli Celebration. My baby will now ride on my or my husband's back as we vacation. We plan to go to several National Parks and to the beach--places that the stroller would not go easily. It is also much easier to pack this small carrier than to drag along a large stroller that we have, especially when the car is packed full of other luggage and baby gear!

This Snugli is so easy to use. It is easy to get baby in and out and my daughter seems very comfortable while riding in it. She giggles and talks while riding in the carrier and she wiggles around a lot. Nonetheless, she is secure in the backpack and I don't worry about her falling out.

I do have to mention that it is not an easy task to get the baby up and onto my back alone but it can be done. It would be a much simpler task if I had another person to put her onto my back once she is secured into the carrier. However, my placing her on the sofa, in the carrier, I have been able to get the straps onto my shoulders and secure the clasps by myself. Once on board, I check in the mirror to make sure all of the straps are in the right place to know that she is secure. Getting her off is the same process. I must do it someplace where she will land on something soft, like the sofa.

Also, it is comfortable for the adult wearing it. The straps are cushioned and all are adjustable. There is really nothing to dislike about this carrier. My friend has used it through two babies and swears by it. She says that she has washed it several times and it has held up well.

I would recommend this carrier to all new parents. Even if you think that you will not use it, you will!! There are just some places you cannot take a stroller and your arms get awful tired when carrying an infant or even a baby who is a little older.
