Great Bass for low $$$
Date of Review: Jun 20, 2002
The Bottom Line: You will not find a better bass for the $300 you can buy one for.
I bought this bass after playing a Yamaha for several years. The neck was one of the first things that I noticed when I picked up the bass. It has fantastic action, and the long scale length really helps the tone and sustain. I will never buy a short scale length bass again. I don't know what the factory setup was like because the store I bought it from sets up new guitars for free. After adjustment, the strings sat low to the neck with no buzzing. The J-Pickups sound great with almost no hum, and by blending the neck and bridge pickup you can get a wide range of tones.
My only gripe is that the wood on the back of the bass has several blemishes. I got the sunburst finish and the wood grain has several dark spots in it. You can't see them during a performance, so it is only a minor problem. This bass is also heavy, but with a wider strap I can play four hour sets without it biting into my shoulder at the end of each one. You wouldn't want to start with this guitar either. The long scale length, 21-fret neck that gives you such great tone can be a bit large and intimidating for beginners. You may want to start on a smaller bass until you get used to the feel of stretching your hand.
