Author's Review

I own a 1996 Ford Explorer xlt. I purchased it in 2001 and have taken good care of it. I bought it so I could make long trips across the state of NH, from Keene to Hampton. It had 79,000 miles on it at the time I bought it, and know has apx. 117000 miles. I guess I drove it about 5000 miles per year. I did put new big tires on it and so I think that does affect the gas mileage,it's not bad but gas is expensive now and so I might downsize my tires the next time I buy new ones, but the big tires looks good on it. It did need some mechanical attention at the time I bought it but the body was and still is in excellent condition and the xlt, has all the bells and whistles, except for the sunroof which I miss, but it has the cruise controll which is nice for highway driving and power locks and windows, a nice 5 disc CD player and AC. I think it's a great SUV truck, I hope it last me another 10 years, - I would like to get it painted this spring to avoid it getting rusty, but I'de have write alot more reviews to make the money for that. Mechanically it's a good truck. I like the inside too, it's comfortable both for the driver and passengers. It is the nicest vehical I've ever owned and at the time I paid 6500.00 for it, in May of 2001. I know it's not worth that now, I think the blue book value is around 3000 maybe. I highly reccomend the ford make anyway and this model SUV is big but not too big, and runs good, and I even can see where the oil dipstick is in it. So to sum up my review of my 1996 Ford Explorer xlt, it is a dependable, strong, and comfortable vehical that is good for long drives and has lots of room for stuff that you can fit in the back of the back seat area. I hope this helps anyone decide if they want to buy a Ford Explorer xlt or any kind of Ford vehicle. I am a ford fan! Thank you.
