GE Electric Kitchen Range, Model JBS55--Nice Ceramic Top With Modern Look

The Bottom Line: Very attractive and modern looking range..and yes, my hubby is a sweetie!
My husband and I recently went to Conn's to pick out a new refrigerator. He was fed up with the old Frigidaire that has been a nightmare from the day after it went out of warranty until he couldn't stand it anymore. The old refrigerator had quirks, the worst being going into automatic defrost where we would find water all over the kitchen floor when we came home from work. Not a nice greeting! We decided on a nice black refrigerator and as we were waiting on the sales lady to write up installation orders for the ice maker, I browsed the kitchen range aisle. I found this gorgeous black ceramic top electric range that I fell in love with. It was a GE Electric Kitchen Range Model JBS55. Granted, my current range worked just fine but it was a Frigidaire also, and I just knew I would be cursed with it sooner or later with our track record. Besides it was white and I was buying a black refrigerator. When we picked out the refrigerator, it was with intentions of replacing all of the kitchen appliances in a black color--but in time.
When the sales lady came back, I inquired about the GE Electric Kitchen Range, Model JBS55 to find that it was on sale for $329 and today was the very last day of the sale. I just looked at hubby and said PLLLEEEEEAASSSEEEE? The sales lady then stepped up to show my husband the features this kitchen range had. I stepped back and smiled.
Needless to say, I got a matching black kitchen range!
GE Electric Kitchen Range Model JBS55
This is a very modern looking range at a very moderate price. This model is black and looks awesome. It has the modern ceramic top with 4 radiant burners, 2 large ones and 2 small ones. The oven is large with plenty of room to cook a Thanksgiving turkey or multiple dishes. Under the oven is a pull out drawer where you can store pots, pans or other items.
Features
The controls are pretty easy to adjust to getting used to. The oven has on/off control that goes immediately to the preheat stage. The oven comes on at 350 degrees. If you want a higher or lower temperature, you need to change it immediately. The broiler has two settings, and you choose either Hi or Low. There is no in between factor here. The one thing that this oven does not have is a self cleaning feature.
Burner controls are nice and go from numbers 1 to 9 with a Lo before the number 1 and a high after the number 9. It is very easy to adjust the temperature with so many settings.
You will also find a normal timer control on the range that can be adjusted by simply pressing the control until it gets to the number of minutes you desire.
The feature I like best is the Hot Surface red light. This red light will stay on until the surface of the range cools down. This is easily seen and helps anyone walking up to the range to avoid getting burned.
This model comes with a one year manufacturers warranty.
Cooking
I have really enjoyed cooking on my new range. I have not managed to boil anything over yet but I know that is only a matter of time!
It is recommended that you use stainless steel and heavy aluminum pots on the surface of this range. It can be easily scratched so you will want to put away your cast iron skillets. I do miss my skillet! Glass, stoneware and ceramic pots are usable but not recommended for the best performance on this cook top. Copper bottom cookware is also not advised because it can leave residue on the surface.
Cleaning
Cleaning the surface of this range has been a total pleasure. It is very easy to maintain and I love the fact that it doesn't have hiding places like a normal electric range would have where food can fall under the burners and cooktop.
All I have to do is wipe the surface with a damp sponge after each use. If a better cleaning is needed to remove grease for instance, the manufacturer recommends a product called Cerama Bryte. This will keep your surface shiny and sparkling. I find using a glass cleaner after soap and water also does the trick at a much cheaper cost.
Recommendation
I have been cooking on my new stove for almost a month now and have enjoyed every minute of it! So far I don't have any complaints. All of the controls work, the temperatures are even and my new GE Electric Kitchen Range Model JBS55 looks nice and modern along side my new black refrigerator. I give GE Electric Kitchen Range Model JBS55 5 Stars!
