Author's Review
Girls' Life has a title which isn't deceiving as some of the titles out there about having a great life being a girl. This magazine TRULY is about a Girls' Life. Have a blast with having the life of a girl--here's the details!
The magazine itself has a colorful cover, catches your eye on the newsstands, and has sayings on the cover that make you want to read it from cover to cover. It is a well-bound magazine, so it doesn't fall apart too easily.
The covers are usually fun and attractive to the eyes, and has many valuable things on it about what it is like living like a girl. One issue, for example, says "Super Special Summer!" then GL lists all different things of having a fabulous summer. The mention things about guys that can help girls decide if they want to read the issue or not. Figure if you and your crush have a GF/BF vibe, is what is says. On the covers show celebrities that make for healthy role models, and that are new in the celeb business, or have accomplished something outstanding that teens want to read about.
The contents of the magazine are fun, and show pictures of the article's content for the articles considered the most important. They explain what each part of the magazine holds, with an example for the common parts of the magazine, like "Dear Carol" and the Q&A's.
Each month they have letters from girls about what they thought about previous issue's articles; how they thought it was good to share about, bad influences, interesting article, inspiring story, etc. Then that is followed by "Short Stuff". This is little bits and things that girls did , what albums are out, tips on body Q's, etc. And this features a COOL GIRL which tells something about a girl doing something for the society, usually.
DEAR CAROL has a list of monthly letters from GL readers that connect to real girls lives and conflicts. This varies from boyfriends, crushes, parents, friends, new experiences, help with serious matters like cutting. This is a huge part of the magazine best features, and is worth reading. The great content is very helpful to teen girls everywhere.
This is followed by BFFs, help with your BFF dilemmas, and how to make the most out of your friendships. BODY Q&A, which answers questions about the body that girls commonly have; GL GUYS, what to do with your boyfriend, ask him out, cool it a little, etc. ; and GUYS Q&A, which answers questions about guys, which many girls tend to worry about these days. :) These may include stuff on anniversaries of a year, "will I ever get a BF?" and the Q's may include things on their friend's BF that another girl is concerned about; I think this is also something that is good to read. The questions are answered from two guy-question experts (they're guys), and the reader is given two different ways of solving the problem. ~This is the unique part of it, and may conclude to solving the problem!
Life- Is about just life in general! How do you find a new job? Be awesome at it? Best baby-sitting tips? Covered. Many different people write this section. This particular magazine has "Take that job-and love it!" How to be employee of the month! In other words, make people love having you as their staff member!
Articles- Articles, articles, articles, where do they stop? That should be a clue that there are many articles scattered throughout the magazine, and this makes the whole magazine in general so FANTASTIC! Articles include: loving yourself and your body, fitness plans, how to make the most out of your friendship, making friends with guys, etc. etc. These always include a real-life story with some girl that is very original that makes a difference in her community. This reflects that ANY girl can make a difference with commitment and work towards their goal. Very inspiring, and may change a girl's decision all together! Making the reflection of believing in yourself is such an important message to send into the world, that some of us have forgotten. The articles featured are always at a great length, and worthwhile reading. You may think the longer the article might just repeat itself, but everything in the articles are worth reading, and they always include a new thing. They never repeat the same type of thing over and over but in different words; which I have seen in magazines, and it frustrates me.
Fashion and Beauty trends: this includes everything in style with having beautiful makeup and having hot fashions (some aren't the best, but they are up-to-date on style at least!)Makeup is very pretty and the tips with make you look fabulous in no time at all.
Karen's Page- Karen (the editor), writes a page by herself every month sharing with the girls about an important experience in her life she feels the girls would like to hear about. These can be childhood stories, something she discovered at their age, relation to something she saw, and more. There was some negative feedback about her page, but personally I think her page is another wonderful thing about the magazine, that lets her share of her opinions and discoveries. This also includes her "tip of the month." Short out the calories with the same taste, sport clothes the cool way, etc. Things girls really care about as teens.
Interviews: Sometimes with GL, they interview the person on the cover. This is always a celebrity, but really draws the readers attention because a celebrity is answering questions. These are HUGE interviews and include some things teens may wonder about the celebrity. These interviews also include one with a guy called the GL CUTIE. This guy may be a moviestar, singer, or someone in Hollywood that would interest teens in hearing from him. This interview is a page in length.
Spotlight: this is an interview with a female singer/actress/movie show host/etc, that serves as an awesome interviewer, and most really deserve this opportunity. This includes all of their details and hard work to becoming a member of Hollywood.
Once in awhile, there are short stories, articles about keeping your fitness, poetry writing GL girls send, and other things girls like to read and share.
Horoscopes are shone near the end of the magazine, and they are colorful, and fun to read. The star signs can make you laugh on how wrong or right they are! Each month's issue dates, like June/ July, they will show those horoscope dates the biggest, because it's your birthday month!
Embarrassing moments-this is something that girls have tons of fun reading out loud, relating to, laughing with the other girls. These are just common things that teens find funny, (even hilarious) about things their siblings have done to HUMILiATE them. Some have serious humiliation, if you can relate.
Ads are scattered here and there around the magazine, and I admit there are a lot of them. But things that teens will be interested in, and what they would actually buy makes a difference. Some ads like proactive could really be helpful with a teen, which includes a coupon for ordering the package with shipping information.

Age Recommendation-11-15 years.
This is a bi-monthly magazine and is very worth the price and wait. Your daughter will love you for it!
~Just a suggestion-if your daughter is going through puberty, there is a book, "Girls' Life guide to growing up" is in bookstores and is helpful as a growing-up guide.
Good Luck!
