The South Shall Rise Again!
Date of Review: Oct 27, 2000
At least it will if you watch this film. Starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable (talk about BIG names), this epic is probably one of the most recognized movies in the world. With it's dramatic scenes and, sometimes, melodramatic plot, it shows the glory of the old, prewar South. And the destruction of it.
The movie is sweeping, but has a few stranger things in it. For one, Scarlet O'Hara is NOT your normal, run of the mill heroine. No, suh. She's brash, bold, two-faced, vengeful, and spiteful. She loves money and herself, and until the end of the movie, that's about it. And this isn't a 'turn-the-witch-into-a-perfect-wife' flick either. Our hero is about as wonderful as our heroine. But this does give the movie a sense of realism.
Though I can see it's fault, and it does have some, I love this movie. And I watch it every year. This isn't one you want to overdo folks; it's 4 hours long. But it's well worth the time.
