I would rather have a booster seat
Date of Review: Apr 23, 2008
The Bottom Line: I don't recommend this product because I wasted so much time struggling to get it to work for me to no avail
High chairs seem to be an essential for new mothers. Now that I am a seasoned parent of two I find them to be more of a nuisance than a help.
Yes, at the beginning I had my daughter in the high chair - all set up with her cheerios/peaches/etc. After awhile I came to loathe cleaning this monster tray. It has a big tray compared to regular booster seats and it did not like to fit in my sink to be rinsed off. I also found that I was constantly washing the underside of this tray as well. Pain in the neck.
We took the fabric pad off after awhile and my daughter just sat on the vinyl pad because I was laundering the fabric pad every night. The vinyl was easier to wipe down. However, even with the vinyl pad, there were all sorts of wonderful places for food to hide. I found myself with toothpicks and q-tips cleaning out the crevices of this high chair.
Yes, it was nice to have reclining features and different heights, but that wasn't the point of having a high chair. It seemed that just because she had a big tray to make a mess of, she made a mess of it. Now that she is in a booster she makes a mess of a smaller tray.
The high chair took up a lot of room and didn't exactly "fold for storage." The colors were nice to look at, but it still looked like a big piece of plastic furniture in the dining room and I really didn't like that. We finally got rid of it because I couldn't stand cleaning it out every night and wanted something more compact and portable for vacationing.
I would suggest considering long term use when purchasing a high chair. If you have the room and the patience to clean - go for it. Otherwise, save your money and get a booster seat. They won't want to be in a high chair by their second birthday, anyway!
