Shania Twain is having a Party for Two on Her Greatest Hits
Date of Review: Nov 9, 2004
The Bottom Line: Shania Twain's Greatest Hits is a must for any music collection.
I have been so looking forward to the release of Shania Twain's Greatest Hits. She has so many wonderful songs that I am really excited about having all my favorites together on one CD. I have been a fan of hers since I first heard her music way back in 1995. She is a like a fine wine - just keeps getting better with time.
On her Greatest Hits CD you will hear songs from The Woman in Me, Come On Over and Up! as well as three new songs. The CD begins with Forever and For Always, which is a really beautiful love song. It's one of those songs that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. I'm Gonna Getcha Good! is the next track. It's a fast paced, fun song about someone that is gonna get the one they are after. Up! is a fun song that was from her last CD. I find myself singing the first few lines a lot here lately. "It's 'bout as bad as it could be - Seems everybody's buggin' me - Like nothing wants to go my way - yeah, it just ain't been my day". Then it gets more positive where the chorus talks about that it can only go up from here. It's a really catchy song that's really easy to sing with (and relate to).
There are lots of drums in Come On Over and you hear Shania starting the song with a couple of her favorite words "shake it". This is a great song for chilling out. Man! I Fell Like a Woman! is another song with lots of drums. It's a song just for us girls where you know she is having lots of fun just being a woman. That Don't Impress Me Much is another catchy song. I've always wondered what Brad Pitt thought about the line that says "Okay, so you're Brad Pitt - That don't impress me much". From This Moment On is a beautiful love song that has become a popular wedding song. When she originally sang the song it was a duet with Bryan White. However, on this CD there is no Bryan. I liked the version with Bryan better, but it's still a beautiful song. "From this moment life has begun - From this moment you are the one - Right beside you is where I belong - From this moment on - From this moment I have been blessed - I live only for your happiness" Now doesn't that just make you want to melt?
Honey, I'm Home is a fast paced, catchy song. It's about someone that had a really crappy day and now they are finally home and want some extra attention. You're Still the One is my all time favorite Shania song. This is my special song that I share with my husband. It fits us so perfectly. Shoot, why didn't I write it? I'd be rich now! It's about a couple that nobody thought would last and after all of this time they are still together going strong. Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You) begins with a fiddle, Shania saying "cool" and snapping. It's a fun song telling her guy to not be so jealous. Love Gets Me Every Time is about someone that meets someone and accidentally falls in love. It's a faster peppy song.
No One Needs to Know, Any Man of Mine and Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under? are all from earlier in Shania's career. They are all fun songs with lots of pep. You Win My Love and (If You're Not in it for Love) I'm Outta Here! are both fast songs about Shania's favorite subject - love. The Woman in Me (Needs the Man in You) is another really beautiful love song. The music and Shania's voice are both soft and soothing. It's about a woman needing a safe place to fall in her man.
Party for Two is at the top of my favorite Shania songs list. I loved the song the first time I heard it. She has a pop version with Mark McGrath and the country version with Billy Currington. I really don't hear a whole lot of difference between the two versions, but I have to say my favorite is with Billy. His voice is just downright sexy. Yum... Don't and I Ain't No Quitter are also new songs for Shania. Don't is a ballad about a couple working through some problems. I Ain't No Quitter has a twangy country sound.

Final Thoughts:
I have to say there is something for everyone here. Many of Shania's songs are fun, upbeat, peppy, fast paced songs. They are songs that are fun to sing with. Shania has a unique sound. She has a voice that when you hear it you know that it is her. She has her own unique style and doesn't try to sound or be like the rest of the world. She does her own thing and we fans love her. She seems down to earth and like she would be a nice person to know. Besides having the fun songs she also can sing the ballads with the best of them. She sings soft and beautiful when she gets the right love song. Some of her songs are pop sounding, while many of her earlier ones are more country sounding.
This Greatest Hits CD spans from 1995-2004. Shania and her husband, Mutt, wrote together all of the songs on this CD. That in itself is remarkable. Shania's talent simply amazes me. For a girl who came from taking mustard sandwiches to school because she was so poor we would all have to say she has came a long way. All I can say is you go girl. I can't wait to hear what's next.
