Halo: Combat Evolved: Its true its true
Date of Review: Jun 1, 2002
The Bottom Line: Great game, if you want an X-Box but aren't sure you should get it because of this.
So you have gotten around to reading this review have you? You want to know about the game Halo don't you? You want me to shut up dont you? alright enough of my rambling, lets get to the game.
This game is visually stunning. Everything is this game makes you cry in happiness. This is as close to a real war as you can get and still have fun. The characters come off as a smooth set of 3D figures, each one I think modeled to fit them. For example if you compare one of the skinny blue guys to a soldier you would obviously see great differences.
The sound in this game is also a great thing. The people in the game actually talk clearly, no slurred crud like in the PS games, tis perfect english. The addition of dramatic music in the background as you sneak up on a group of grunts enthrails you. Also the soldiers on your side have a few things to say about their opponents. They often will say witty and sometimes mean things about the grunts, yet who can blame 'em.
The different levels each have a uniqeuness to them, per say the environment. These levels are so dynamically advanced that it is easy to get lost in their largeness and visuals. Though the levels such as the spaceship ones do get kind of dark and hard to see, often makes you dizzy to stare at too long, that is my main beef with it.
The fighting system in Halo is fairly good for the bulky X-Box controller. It is fairly simple but takes a bit of time to learn. With each button doing their respected action (i.e white button turns on flash light). The action itself is very addictive. You can be outnumbered by countless enemies and still put up a valiant fight to win.
A cool thing in this game is the Co-Op story mode. You and a bud can go through the long and unique story mode both mounting kills and gaining rank in an attempt to win the battle. There are also a few other modes to play. For example you can have deathmatches between up to four players, all these are set in different places.
All in all I thing this will be the best game for years to come, we can only wonder what they will do for Halo 2, will it make up to Halo 1? One can only wonder.
