Author's Review
Having a weak immune system, I get sick every couple of weeks. Recently, my mom talked to me into purchasing a juicer, telling me that the vitamins and minerals would improve my health. I decided to take her advice, and I purchase the Hamilton Beach HealthSmart 67800 model.
Once I got it home and cleaned, I was amazed at how easy it is to put together. Besides the base, they are only about 4 large parts, and they snap together very easily. The juicer also includes a book with great juicing recipes, although I like to create my own.
Before I begin juicing, I wash all the fruits and vegetables that I plan on using. You can leave the peel on most of them, except for fruits such as oranges and tangerines. Then I slice them small enough to fit in the food chute, which could be a bit larger but it serves its purpose.
The juicer is easily turned on by flipping a switch on the side of the machine. You then put the food into the chute, pushing it into the cutter by using the food pusher. The juice comes out a spout on the side of the juice, and the remaining pulp expels into the pulp bin, located on the opposite side of the machine.
Once you are done juicer, I would recommend immediately cleaning the machine. If you don't, the food will dry on it and it becomes impossible to clean. I was surprised that the juicer did not come with a cleaning brush for the juice spout, as particles sometimes get stuck it in. I used a Q-tip to clean mine, and it worked very well. Otherwise, the machine cleans up pretty easy. I take mine apart, rinse off the pieces in the sink, and then I wipe off the base with a paper towel.
I also suggest that you drink the juice immediately, as it looses some of its nutritional value when it sits.
For the price (about 30 bucks) this is a great juicer. My mother bought one for 60 and it isn't much different from mine. Despite the small food chute, it is easy to use and easy to maintain.
