Defective upon delivery - too much gadgetry

This fan is controlled by a dozen little buttons up top, and a remote also.

You set the breeze pattern, the fan speed, the oscillation, and the time duration... oy vey! How about just an old fashion low/med/high??

There is no simple on/off switch. Instead, you must set the timer (up to 7.5 hours) to turn on the fan.

It seemed to work fine when I took it out of the box and turned it on. Nice, strong air flow. It was a tad noisier than more expensive fans (e.g., Vornado), but not extremely loud.

But then, it turned off by itself after several minutes.

I turned it back on and set the time for an hour. It turned off a minute later.

I turned it back on, set the timer for 7.5 hours (the max). It turned itself off a minute later.

I returned it back to the retailer as defective.

I opted for a refund, rather than a replacement.

All that extra circuitry has me questioning just how long this fan's life will be. Even if the motor itself is strong and durable, all it takes is for that electronic timer to fail, and the fan is rendered useless.

If this fan had a more simple operation (like low/med/high), I'd say it would be a desirable unit for the price.
