Straightforward installation, but much more than the advertised 1 hour.

I recently installed one because my wife began complaining of dry, cracking skin. The unit works very well, I believe that its power fan makes it more effective than the lower cost simple bypass units. The fact that it uses an evaporative pad should mean much lower maintenance than either the drum or spray type humidifiers. I also chose it because it is a Honeywell which I have been very pleased with over the years, as opposed to some brands I never heard of before shopping for a humidifier.

Installation was not the simple 1 hour process described in the video. The next one might take an hour but 4 hours is a more reasonable estimate if one is going read the instructions and double check everything before doing any cutting or wiring. The cutout template confused me for a while. I spent several minutes looking for it until I realized it was the instruction sheet itself. The humidistat and airflow switch both had separate templates labeled as such.

The unit needs a 110 volt outlet so add in any time needed to install one if there isn't one within 5 feet of the unit. I added an outlet box tapped off the furnace fan power switch in about an hour. I guess I could have used an extension cord but I like to do things right.

I purchased the installation kit for $54.00 and in my opinion it was pretty much a waste. It contained an installation video which frequently said refer to the instruction sheet. I'm quite sure the parts it contained would have cost less than $20.00 purchased separately. They consisted of about 10 feet of 1/2" plastic and 1/4" polyethylene hose, a saddle tee to hook up the water supply, 20 feet of 18 gauge wire, and some sheet metal screws and wire nuts.
