Product Review

I like it

by   theplanimal ,   Jan 10, 2004

Pros:  Works well, bags easy to change, tools easy to attach, long cord, detachable toolrack

Cons:  Would have liked the hose to be longer, if that's possible; only reaches 4 steps.

The Bottom Line:  I'm not familiar with expensive cleaners, but among the inexpensive, this is good. I gave it 4 stars mainly because I haven't had it long enough to give 5.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought my cleaner a few weeks ago and have actually enjoyed using it. It's about the same size and weight as my older one (also a Hoover; I've always had good service from their cleaners) and makes about the same amount of noise. But it's much easier to connect the attachments to this one--no trouble at all--and to change the bag. (I've found I prefer bags over bagless because I don't like cleaning the bagless ones. Maybe some of the really expensive bagless cleaners make it easier but I've never had one that cost over $80. Overall the cheaper ones seem to work fine for me.)

The suction appears to be good (but I don't get down and examine the depths of the carpets to check on that; I'm talking about surface results.) Even with all the attachments hooked up, the crevice tool can get that light grey fuzz from against the baseboards, and it picks up larger items quickly too. It will catch the curtains or other light objects you might not want it to, but it doesn't develop a death grip on them (like one super-suction small cleaner I had and have put in the garage to use in the car.)

I thought the assembly was fairly easy, and I'm just an ordinarily capable person with things like that. One warning: when you put on the front plate, the big piece that covers the bag compartment, be sure it's really clicked all the way into place. I thought mine was, and when I started my cleaner for the first time, ta-da--the plate fell off! It was just a funny incident; nothing was damaged.

I have a few minor negatives about the cleaner. It's as heavy and as noisy as the one it replaces. The hose doesn't reach as far as I'd like, so I still have to move the whole cleaner up and down to do the stairs. (They may have to be this short; I won't bore you with details, but just say that I've never tried to use an upright with a hose on stairs so I don't know.) But overall, I like it much more than the 10-year-old Hoover it replaced (which is still working but is now the upstairs cleaner).
