Author's Review
While I am a "baby wearing mama" and have many different slings and carriers, I never had a Hotsling when my older daughter was a baby. However, in hopes that my next baby would allow me to wear her more often (my older daughter wanted to be out and about on her own!), I started looking into Hotslings. I really wanted a pouch sling for the first couple months (for a cradle carry) and then as a hip carrier from then on. I asked a few of my "expert" friends and they recommended a Hotsling over other types, like Peanut Shells or Slinglings.
I raided the "for sale or trade" sections of some of my favorite message boards and finally got my hands on a Hotsling. I was really impressed with the simplicity of it. The first sling I ordered was a padded sling, so it had padding along a section of the outside edge, which was for the back of the baby's knees when the he/she was in a hip carry. I was never able to use the padded sling, however, because I tried it on with my older daughter in a hip carry and it just felt like I needed a size up so I sold that one and ordered a bigger size, which has worked out quite well. I'm able to get my new little baby in and out of the sling easily and she's comfortable in it. The pouch spreads across my shoulder andd back enough to provide comfortable support, rather than a cheap shoulder sling which can be too narrow and pull down on your shoulder and/or cut into your neck. The sling I have (a Hotsling Solarveil) also has a small pocket (which I can fit a small diaper in) and a toy ring on it.
Hotslings have a lot of adorable patterns to choose from, and they require very little care other than a simple washing routine if needed. The only disadvantage is sizing. They are only adjustable in a useful way if you already have the correct size, and their sizing can be a little difficult to figure out if you're in between sizes. For example, while you may be a size 3 in height and weight, if your torso is longer or shorter, that could put you into an entirely different size range.
