When it comes to getting gifts for my husband for Christmas and his birthday, which unfortunately for him, do not fall too far apart, I am pretty much delegated to clothes and cologne, as he is not a power tools type of guy and any type of electronic gadgetry he would prefer to buy himself. Happily, I accept this role!
His last birthday (which happed to be the big 4-0) I noticed he was in need of some new cologne. So off I went to the men's cologne counter at my local
Macy's and started testing. After 15-20 minutes of sniffing cards, my poor nose frankly couldn't tell one from the other. So I enlisted the help of a sales clerk. What I wanted was something not too heavy, but sexy enough that I would get enjoy it after he put it on in the morning. I explained to her that my husband worked in an office that was almost all men, software developers at that, and that these men were really not the metrosexual type of guys who heavily were into grooming and fashion. She quickly directly me to
Lauder Intuition for Men.
I myself have used quite a few of Estee Lauder's women's colognes and always thought they were quite great, and
Intuition is obviously developed in the same style as the women's: sexy but not overpowering upon initial application, leaving the wearer with a subtle but intriguing scent for the rest of the day.
In
Intuition's case, the scent is a light woodsy scent. It is not like some of the stronger men's colognes, such as Ralph Lauren
Polo which still smell very strong several hours after application. I'll never forget working in Alaska in a salmon processing plant for two summers during my college years when one of the supervisors wore
Polo. Despite the bad smell of the fish we could always smell him coming a mile away. Perhaps that was good back then but for my husband it is not what he needs, working in an almost all-male office.
On the Estee Lauder website (www.esteelauder.com)
Intuition is actually categorized as a solar oriental with bright and vibrant top notes of sage absolute, cucumber, nutmeg, and cardamom. Middle notes, the site states, release the woodsy warmth of patchouli and cedarwood and the base notes reveal the strong sensuality of amber.
I purchased the
3.4 ounce Cologne Spray for $40 at
Macy's. It comes in thick chunky, slight contoured glass bottle with a pull-off glass top: very distinct and masculine looking. For a department store cologne of that size I think that it is a very good price. Unfortunately at the time they didn't have freebies, such a travel shaving kit to offer. I also wish it might have come in a slightly smaller size as 3.4 ounce is quite a substantial size. I did notice on the Epinions site, however, that a 1.7 ounce size is offered in some stores.
According to the
PETA website Estee Lauder products are not tested on animals.
My husband has been quite pleased with my selection. He still has some heavier scents to wear for going out and such, but for everyday wear,
Intuition has proved to be a perfect choice and not raised any eyebrows at the office. I like it since it's light and sexy and I still get the first wonderful little punch of its initial application.
My husband said it applied easily: no overspraying.
The
Intuition for Men scent also comes in an after shave, after shave balm, hair and body wash, and deodorant.
