Budweiser and digital cameras!
Date of Review: Dec 18, 2006
The Bottom Line: I really do recommend this camera for anyone interested in starting out in digital photography or anyone on a budget who wants quality.
Most folks these days have or will acquire a digital camera and the Easy Share C743 by Kodak makes a great starter camera. I chose this camera primarily due to my budget. I attend a lot of Nascar events where a great deal of Budweiser is consumed and as a result i've been known to drop a few things. This being part of the decision making promise I wanted quality on a budget that is replaceable if necessary.
As far as I'm concerned I couldn't find a better camera on the shelves for the price. With 7.1 MP (megapixels) this camera takes great photo's! Megapixels are a very important consideration when buying a camera... the more the better. Megapixels are like money and ram, you can never have enough!
With this large resolution you therefor can print some large prints, the camera supports prints upto 20x30" or 50x76 cm. Nice!
Zoom away! I love the telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. I used the camera on the 2nd day at the park with my duaghter to test out action shots and using the zoom. It worked great. The zoom really kicked in and I was able to great some really distant shots.
The display has been very satisfactory as well. With a 2.4 in. (6.1 cm) indoor/outdoor color display I can see everything I need to. It's very handy for editing shots on the fly as well and reading the menu's. I had no problems seeing the display during the annual Chumuckla Redneck Christmas parade which was held in the middle of the afternoon with a great deal of sunlight. My old cameras display was nearly impossible to see during brightly lit times. I also used the video option during the parade and some some really great video clips which downloaded in QuickTime format. The VGA video is 640x480 at 30 fps which is just fine for all I will use it for. I have found I could not zoom during the video and so far that is the only drawback I have found with the thing so far.
There is an on-camera share button but I have yet to use that so in all honesty I can't say how well that feature works.
The onboard internal memory is almost non existent, I promptly purchased a 1 GB SD flash and a 512 flash for photo storage. Using the 1 GB stick I can take a 45 minute video at the highest resolution or approximately 1000 photos. Sweet.
SO far so good. I've had a wonderful time with this camera and with the price you really can't go wrong. If I break it or the kids want to use it I won't lose sleep worrying whether they will break it or not and I get excellent photos in the mean time.
