Author's Review
My little Lakewood floor fan is actually used on my desk. It keeps me and my computers nice and cool from early spring until mid fall. I have a tech shop in my basement where I work most of the day and with all the computers running it gets very warm, even with air conditioning running. I have two computers on my desk; one is my primary computer that I use for business, internet and email and the other is for recreation like gaming and multimedia. Both are powerful with many drives and get very warm, especially in the summer time.
This fan keeps me and both my computers cool with the lowest setting. I have it sitting behind the computers blowing air in between the two from the rear and the leftover airflow blows across my keyboard. I have never needed to crank it up past low to do the job but if I did, the fan is so powerful it would blow things off my desk. On the lowest setting, it gives a nice comfortable breeze that is just right for keeping cool without papers blowing all around the room.

The fan has three speeds; low, medium and high. On medium it blows a little too much for close proximity but if you were to place it on the floor it would be perfect for a small living room or den. The fan can be angled to blow upward or downward so you have plenty of choices of where to place it. If placed on the floor with the blades angled upward, it will blow cooler air from the floor up into the room. If placed on a higher plane, like a table, with the blades angled downward it helps to circulate the air by bringing warmer air down and dispersing it with the cooler air on the floor. Either way it works very well.
The fan blades are only 9in. in diameter but it covers an area of about four to eight feet wide by about 15 feet long comfortably. If you stand 15 feet away, you can feel the breeze even on the low setting. On high you can feel the breeze up to about 20 feet. Within 5 feet, the breeze blows about four feet wide and that stretches to about 8 feet wide when you back up to about 15 feet from the fan. The cord is plenty long enough at seven feet to place the fan wherever you need to.
The fan has three blades and they are made of aluminum, not plastic. They are very strong and could chop a finger off when set on high speed; however, there is a metal guard that completely surrounds the blades. The openings are too small for you to get a finger into the blade area. Small babies and toddlers may be able to get a finger in, so this is a concern if you are thinking of getting this fan.
The fan is just a little bit noisy on low and generates a good deal of noise on medium and high. This is probably not a good choice for a quiet office or a library, but it is fine for our home and especially my office/workshop. When the fan is on high, you may not be able to carry on a telephone conversation within 5 feet of it, but on medium it isn't too bad.
The face guard comes off with four philips head screws for easy cleaning. The blades can be easily cleaned with a damp sponge or paper towels and the motor can be cleaned with compressed air. The face guard can be put into the dishwasher or cleaned in the sink and the rear guard can be cleaned with paper towels or compressed air. Total cleaning time for me is about 5 minutes with a couple paper towels and my air compressor. You can also used the canned compressed air as well.
This is a decent little fan. We have had ours for about two years now and it has never had any problems. My wife paid $20 for it at Walmart in Lynchburg in 2005 and it has more than paid for itself in work hours. I would expect it will probably last a good 10 years or more as long as we keep the motor clean of dust.
