As bad as it gets......
Date of Review: Aug 7, 2008
The Bottom Line: If you want aggravation and frustration X 10, this is the printer for you. Otherwise, avoid it like the plague that it is.
I have never had so much trouble, or so much frustration, with any printer (or other computer hardware) that I have EVER owned. Ever.
The cost is low. BUT it was one of the worst $30 I've spent. Seriously. First, you get a bit ripped off. $30 sounds like a sweet deal for a good-looking printer, right?? Wrong. Black ink is NOT included. Color ink is trial sized. You have to purchase the ink separately, which ran me around $18. (I should've spent my $48 on a better printer.)
The FIRST one I bought didn't even work. How disappointing. Had never been opened or anything. I returned it to the place of purchase (Wal-Mart). Thinking that I'd just gotten unlucky with some bad merchandise, I exchanged it for the same model, hoping that it was just a one-time deal.
The SECOND printer worked, but not very well. If you use the software CD, it is accompanied by all sorts of "voice" prompts that are so annoying, they were like a drill going into my brain. "Please load paper into the auto-sheet feeder." "The paper is jammed." Very, very aggravating. And even MORE so when something isn't happening right and you get to hear it multiple times. Fun!
Printer likes to pull to the right, for some reason. I often have to print packaging/postage labels two or more times to get them right/readable. Printer is VERY sensitive; paper gets stuck/jammed much easier than in any other printer I've ever owned.
And for the record, I am NOT an 80-year-old lady who doesn't know how to use computers. I am a 28 year old who has been on the internet for over half of my life. I've held computer/office jobs in the past. I've owned several printers. None as bad as this one.
Another annoying feature is that when it JUST BEGINS to run out of ink, it will prompt you repeatedly to buy ink through their website. After those few times, it will not even allow you to bypass it and PRINT!!
Battery/cartridge doesn't stay in place as well as it should. Probably not a problem for most people, but I have a family and they are NOISY and I often have to move the printer to work in different areas of the house.
I'm sort of happy because it means I'm absolutely justified in replacing this piece of junk.
I was so disappointed with this printer that I will never again make the mistake of buying another Lexmark product.
