Lexmark X7170 All-In-One InkJet Printer

When you need a reliable all in one work horse in your home office or work place, then the Lexmark X7170 All In One unit is a good choice. The quality of the text and the graphics are not the best, but this is not a high end printer. It does boast all the desired features you may need, good fast scanning, you can use the fax and copy features without accessing the computer, it holds up to 50 pages in the feeder, and it prints photos at a very good quality. This printer also makes very good copies. I was very impressed with this feature, my previous Lexmark copies showed unwanted spots in almost every copy i made.
It's size is rather large, compared to other all in one's, it may be better on a stand or next or below the desk. It has two ink cartridges: one black and one tri color cartridge. One thing you should always research before buying a printer is the cost of the refils. These ink cartridges are very reasonably priced, and they also work well with a universal ink filler. You can even put in an extra photo cartridge for six color higher quality photo printing.
Performance is much better than my previously owned Lexmark printers. The X7170 prints black and white pages relatively fast, but is a dog at full page 8 x 10 color prints. Smaller prints did much better, 4 x 6 are very quick and detailed. It also handles fonts well, most fonts are very readable at 6 points and under, but diminishes at 4 points. Graphics images do show some dithering and visible lines. Photos fare much better at printing, for some reason, and it is not a specific photo printer only.
Overall this printer is a well made device. No problems with it so far, and if i do have one, i hope it is within the warranty period, then Lexmark will replace it for free. Their warranty program is great, provided it is within the time frame. If not, they refuse to even talk to you!!!
