Driven my 1999 Lincoln Town Car for 225,000 miles
Pros:
Seems to run and run and run requiring only minor repairs. Very cushy and comfortable.
Cons:
You have to shout for people in the back seat to hear you.
The Bottom Line:
Very reliable and long-running

Author's Review
I bought my Lincoln Town Car with a few thousand miles on it in 1999 and have been driving it ever since, (I'm writing this in September 2008). It now has approx. 225,000 miles on it and still runs like a top. I've developed a powerful love for this car.
Yes, it is a floating rumpus room, but considering that I have to drive 25,000 or so a year, is that a bad thing?
And, supposedly it's an old guy's car. Maybe. I'm sixty three. I like not having to bend myself into a pretzel to get in and out. So, sue me!
I work for a university where my colleagues see my beloved car as politicaly incorrect. What they don't understand is that it gets decent gas mileage, 17 mpg in town 24 mpg on the highway. I pump only premium gas into it. So its carbon footprint is not much worse from their bloody Volvo's.
A few months a ago, with 200,000 on it, I couldn't believe that Detroit had gotten it right. It was headed for the wreckers soon, I thought. But, I didn't want to part with it so I took it to AAA for a diagnostic exam. The diagnostic technician said it needed a new light bulb over the rear license plate and I should probably change the hoses. "What about the engine, the transmission? What serious repairs are coming up?" I asked him. He looked at me like I just didn't understand. "It oughta be able to run for another 100,00 miles -- probably more."
So, I drove my beloved floating rumpus room home.
Yes, making U-turns are a problem. And, after nearly ten years the cushy leather interior is getting a little cracked here and there. But then again so is my interior. I'm planning we're both going to last a while longer. It's a classic in its own floating bulbous way. Detroit's finest.
