My husband bought me a Geocaching Bundle package which included the Magellan Explorist 400 at the end of September 2006. I had many problems in the four months which followed, which were complicated by the extremely dissatisfying customer service I received on approximately 18 calls over the next five months. Among other problems, my gps froze up on various screens and on it's maiden geocaching voyage,it did that and then couldn't be restarted.
Upon calling customer support, I returned the unit to the Magellan repair center, and then a month later had more problems.
In a nutshell, I spent 6 more frustrating weeks back and forth with customer service trying to get a refund unsuccessfully, and then as a last resort, a new 400. Twice they promised me a unit had been sent and twice one didn't show up!
I wasn't going to let them off easy and after some persistence finally received my replacement unit this week. Low and behold, it appears to be a refurbished gps! My new one was green and the one they sent me recently is white and had some tape residue on the back of it like it has been used. This was after telling the customer service supervisor (I spoke to many of them) that a refurbished gps was not acceptable.
