I bought this scanner, even after I read the bad reviews on it here, and I have to say that I have not experienced any of the problems the bad reviews talk about. First of all, I also had to buy a new USB internal card for my computer because I had maxed out my ports with other devices. Then I added this scanner and added the CD to the drive and "BAMM" it was done. I like to use Microsoft Picture IT 2000 photo editing software and this scanner interfaces with it perfectly. Then I can alter anything about the scan I want from size to color to anything I want to do with it. Scanning and editing text is a breeze compared to my scanner at my office. All I have to do is place the document in the scanner and press the text scan button and it automatically makes a file compatible with Microsoft Word and I can edit any part of it I choose. You cannot modify text with most other scanners. Also, this scanner is really fast. I can scan a 4x6 photo at 600 dpi in about 30 seconds. Now that's fast. And the ability to either use preset values or custom values is a plus. Basically, if you are tight with spending money on computer accessories, but need a decent scanner, then this one is the one for you.

P.S. I have not had any problems with the scanner, so I have not needed to call customer support, so I cannot comment on that.
