Our ten year old Maytag needed replacing. I looked at every model dishwasher available. I visited the big box stores, Best Buy, and local appliance dealers. I ended up with a local small appliance dealer because the salesperson spent a ton of time going over every machine's pluses and minuses. My main criterion was that the machine had to last longer than ten years. Secondly, it had to be dependable and do the job quietly. I selected the Miele Optima 2470 for the style and how it fit into the kitchen with my older appliances. I was impressed that I could select color and style of door and handle.
This machine runs very quietly. Guests would wonder what was going on in the kitchen with our old machine. It would literally moan and groan. Not with this one. It is so quiet that you have to put your ear up to the door to hear if its running.
We programmed the alarm at the end of the cycle to not sound. This took several attempts at the series of buttons to push and the order, but we finally mastered it.
The interior of the machine is very spacious. It took some getting used to. We use several types of glasses. The glasses come out spotless. The only thing I do not like is that none of the plastic items dry. You have to dry them manually. I have tried a couple of different cycles, but still haven't found one that successfully removes all of the condensation and water from plastic. The normal cycle works the best for what we need. Also we go between two and three days without running the machine. It holds an amazing amount of plates, bowls, pots and pans.
At this point, we are very pleased with our selection and feel that the purchase was worth the higher price.
