Mr. Grumpy Gumpy

I see that I am not the only one to call Mr. Gumpy "Mr Grumpy!" I always change his name to Mr. Grumpy for some reason. I do not think that I even noticed that it was not Mr. Grumpy for the longest time! I love books that flow so nicely like this one, especially reading out loud to children. Mr. Gumpy's Outing is one of the best books for reading out loud! It is the kind of story book that after reading it a few times, you can almost tell it line per line from memory!!

Mr. Gumpy's Outing is a great book for any child's bookshelf. It is a fun story, easy to read, and a great bedtime story book. It is a board book, practically indestructible. The illustrations are works of art! Some are in black and white and some are in color. Many are very detailed and we spend time looking at each detail. Some of the portraits look similar to cross-stitch to me.

This story book starts off introducing Mr. Gumpy. Then Mr. Gumpy going for a boat ride. The children want to come too and he says only if you do not squabble! Then a rabbit wants aboard the boat, Mr Gumpy says alright but no hopping! The cat is next in line and Mr. Gumpy says only if he does not chase the rabbit. The dog wants in too, Mr. Gumpy says he is not to tease the cat. Mr. Gumpy allows the pig in only if he does not muck about. The sheep wants to know if they have room for him, Mr. Gumpy says yes if he does not bleat.

The chicken are allowed in but they are not to flap. A calf wants on next and he is not to trample. Mr. Gumpy allows a goat aboard but he is not to kick. Then...."The goat kicked The calf trampled The chickens flapped The sheep bleated The pig mucked about The dog teased the cat The cat chased the rabbit The rabbit hopped The children squabbled The boat tipped... and into the water they fell." Then they all walked home and had tea. Mr. Gumpy tells them to come back another day for a boat ride.

This is a much better book to read aloud then to summarize! Summarizing it just does not show you how good this book really is, you have to read it! My review does not do it justice. Trust me, this is a great book for children. Children stay quiet as mice listening to the story. It is engaging and interesting.

A wonderful book that I would recommend for any home with children or daycare for reading aloud to the children! All ages love this book and the detailed pictures in the book.
